Mr and Mrs Cliff Dulin learned Sunday of the sudden death of their son in law Clyde Bettesworth 58 in Vancouver Washington The Dulins departed Monday to Vancouver to be with the family during their bereavement
Funeral services were held at Sheets and Son Funeral Home in Tipton for T Hayes Ridenour long time Bennedette Township landowner. He died August 29 at Riverside Manor Ames after ten months there born July 26 1876 Cedar County. He taught rural in Cedar and later ran a college rooming house near Iowa State Campus before illness. Burial Rochester Cemetery West Branch. Survivors include one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Attendees included Harm Hovenga and Carl Worley of Aredale.
A NIAD Progress Report meeting is set for the evening of October 6 at the Hanford Hotel in Mason City. Henry C. Nelson, NIAD Executive Committee chairman, says NIAD Study Committee representatives from Education Agriculture Business & Industry and Recreation & Tourism will report on progress to date. All residents in the nine county NIAD area interested in the study are urged to attend.
Approximately five inches of rain fell in Greene and surrounding communities on Monday evening. Heavier rainfall reported in towns northwest of Greene caused a rise in the Shell Rock River, raising flood risk for low lying areas.
Jesuit Father Joseph F. Gregory of Minneapolis will visit Greene September 13 to 18 to lead a Week of Reparation in honor of the Sacred Heart. The program includes nightly holy hours, sermons, six days of talks, parish consecration to the Sacred Heart, and participation by students and parish groups. Father Gregory, active in the Apostleship of Prayer across six states, will speak at morning Masses and meet with parish groups.
Verne Thompson of Greene loses wife Leota in a Saturday crash on Iowa Highway 14 near Parkersburg. A 29 year old truck driver Lowell Reese of Northwood escaped injury as Thompson’s 1964 Chevrolet station wagon collided with his semi, vehicle ending in a ditch. Funeral services held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Greene Community School District voters will cast ballots next Monday September 14 in the high school auditorium lobby from 12 noon to 7 PM Central Standard Time. A board member from Scott and Bennedette Townships and a district treasurer position are on the ballot. Galen Miller is the board candidate, Verle Barth seeks re election as treasurer, Graydon Anderson did not run. All district residents meeting state qualifications may vote.
The Annual Missionary Conference with seven Regular Baptist Churches will run September 13 to 20. A different speaker is scheduled each evening at Calvary Baptist 10:00 a.m. Sunday and 7:00 p.m. nightly. Topics include Home Missions Liberia Central African Republic France and the Philippines. Participating churches include Horton Baptist Marble Rock New Hampton First Baptist in New Hartford Shell Rock and Waverly. Calvary Baptist invites all to attend.
Dell Curtis was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Tuesday and underwent surgery this morning. Mrs. Walter Hildebrand underwent surgery on Thursday at the City hospital.
Mrs. Bert Hagarty received word from her son Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty at Hilversum, Holland, that an 2:1 mail letter sent August 25 arrived August 27. He is en route from the Bahama Islands to the Ecumenical Council meeting at the Vatican in Rome in September.
Parents of San Ammman First Class and Mrs Dallas Foster of Eglin Air Force Base Pensacola Florida announce the birth of their son Scott William on Friday September 4. The infant weighed 9 pounds. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Lowell Foster and Mrs Verle Townsley of Greene.
Fred Kollmann born September 26 1882 in West Point Township Butler County died September 1 at St. Anthony Hospital Rock Island Illinois aged 81 years 11 months 25 days. Survived by wife Mata Fick six grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral Friday at St Paul Lutheran Church Waverly burial Harlington Cemetery Waverly.
Army PFC Leon D. Williamson of the 1st Infantry Division participates in joint Army Air Force Exercise Indian River III at Eglin Air Force Base Florida on Sept 16. Williamson, 25, is with 18th Infantry Battalion based at Fort Riley Kansas, entered the Army in 1960, previously served in Germany. His wife Sheila resides in Junction City Kansas.
John P Feyereisen 88 a former Greene and Waterloo resident died Thursday in Perham Minnesota from age related causes. He was born in Luxembourg and lived in Greene and Waterloo before moving to Perham. Survived by widow three daughters a son and siblings. Funeral at St Henrys Perham with burial there.
A survey of Northeast Butler County area businesses was conducted September 3 and 4 by Kay Connelly of the Butler County Extension Service and Ron Fass of ISU. Over 300 NIAD businessmen in Winnebago Worth Mitchell Hancock Cerro Gordo Floyd Wright Franklin and Butler counties were asked about purchasing patterns and store goods. Results will be shared with nine county area business people. The NIAD study aims to aid local expansion prospects and attract new firms and branch offices, as part of Iowa State University’s NIAD surveys. The NIAD organization also runs committees on education recreation tourism and agriculture to promote social and economic development.
Butler County youths are invited to a Thursday meeting at Allison City Hall at 7 30 pm Central Time with a guest speaker. High school students and all young Republicans are urged to attend.
Coach Max Dougherty brings a loaded Greene Rambler squad to host Osage in the season opener at 7 45 p m C S T Friday. Osage is a veteran club pegged as a conference contender while Greene counters with 14 returning lettermen and a 62 man roster. The game offers both sides a chance to gauge strength ahead of conference play.
The Youth Center will be open after the Osage-Greene football game and run until 11 30 p m. All high school students are invited to attend.
Mrs Maevis Lindahl a home service representative from Interstate Power Company will present a cooking demonstration at the Power Plant in Greene on Thursday September 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Officials invite all to view the demo and enjoy barbequed salami sandwiches and coffee.
Vivian Kingery, once a patient at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, has returned home on Monday. The move marks a discharge from the local medical facility following treatment and recovery.
Mr and Mrs James Klunder of Neshua announce the birth of a son on Wednesday September 2 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces. The baby is named James Thomas. Mrs Klunder is Joyce Kelly daughter of Mr and Mrs Urban Kelly and the paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Alvin Klunder.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stark and their two sons relocate to Packard as he accepts the manager position at Packard Elevator Co. Previously in Rodman he managed the Quacker Oats plant for four years and was an assistant manager in Emmetsburg. A Riceville native and Greene Community Schools parents, Stark is married to Mary Husen of Council Bluffs.
New resident Harold Shultz and his wife Annette Shultz welcomed a son named Kent Joel born Thursday evening September 3 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The baby weighed 7 pounds 15% ounces. Mrs Shultz, formerly Annette Surgess of Palatine Illinois, taught fourth grade in Greene Community School.
Lee Roy Swanson of Bristow was charged with careless driving in the case heard by Mayor Bamker's court. He paid a fine of $20.00 plus $4.00 in costs.
The second meat hog show in Allison will be held on Saturday September 26, co sponsored by Bauman Livestock and Butler County Extension Service. Entry is open to Butler County farmers who may enter one or two hogs. Hogs are judged live at Bauman Livestock Yards and sold grade and yield to Bath Packing Company at Waterloo.
