Farmers Vote to Abolish Corn Controls By 31 Margin
Town farmers across 26 major corn states participated in a Tuesday referendum to end 25 years of corn production controls. In Butler County 492 voters split 392 for a plan abolishing acreage allotments with price supports at 90 percent of market averages, 74 for retaining allotments with supports 75 to 90 percent, and some challenge votes. Iowa results favored the change 40,984 to 16,249, and the plan seeks to equalize all corn producers under a program setting price supports at 90 percent of average prices with a floor at 65 percent of parity.
