Leslie Pfaltzgraff of Dumont Butler County commander of the American Legion says a county Legion and Auxiliary meeting will be held at the Veterans Club in Greene on Wednesday evening March 16 at 8 00 oclock.
Girl Scout Troops 965 and 264 fourth graders join nationwide Cookie Week selling sandwiches thin minis savannahs and scot teas from March 12 to 19 with delivery April 28 to 30. Local treasury profits fund community projects while the rest aids council camping. List of participating scouts and meeting plans for Friday after school.
Mr and Mrs Gene Majewski are parents of a son Greg Joseph born Friday March 4 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charlies City weighing 6 pounds 1234 ounces. Mr and Mrs Gerald Curtis are parents of a daughter Brenda Lee born Friday March 4 at Cedar Valley Hospital weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces.
George Johnson 81 died at Harris Rest Home Marble Rock after an extended illness. He was born November 9 1878 in Orient Ohio to Peter and Martha Leach Johnson. Surviving are two sons Elwin Grinnell Basil Greene a daughter Grace Steere Greene eleven grandchildren twenty two great grandchildren two brothers E S Johnson Greene Philip Johnson Columbus Ohio a sister Bertha Keyes Columbus Ohio. Funeral at Williams Mortuary at 1 30 p.m. with Rev Clayton Becker officiating. Burial at L O C F Cemetery Brooklyn at 2 p.m. Thursday.
William Brandenburg of Dumont is named Crusade Chairman for the American Cancer Society in Butler County. The eighth year of his service is noted by county chairwoman Mrs. Dave Harken. Brandenburg is active in church Lions Club Masonic Lodge and politics. Iowa goal for 1960 is 916666.66 dollars. KWWL TV will air crusade instructions March 29 from 8 to 830 p.m.

A Republican caucus will be held in the office of C E Burroughs on Thursday March 10 at 7 30 pm All interested Republicans are urged to attend and young Republicans are especially invited The caucus aims to nominate a committeeman and committeewoman and to elect delegates to the county convention on April 1 in Allison Delegates will attend the presidential convention in Des Moines on April 22.
Army Pvt. Frederick W. Kelm, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will O. Kelm, is undergoing eight weeks of advanced artillery training at The Artillery and Missile Center Fort Sill Oklahoma. He will finish March 31 and trains as an Honest John rocket crewman after enlisting in November 1959 following his Clarksville High School 1954 graduation and prior work at Shield Bantam Co. Waverly.
Vern Gard, an instructor at Greene Community Schools, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Scholarship for advanced chemistry study. He will attend Carleton College in Minnesota for six weeks this summer, with tuition books and a cash stipend covered.
Interstate Power Company reports 1959 net income of 4,358,180 up 388,615 from 1958, with 8,131,496 in net plant additions and 151,600 customers served. Taxes for 1959 totaled 6,578,198, rising 546,048 from 1958 to support continued service.
Mary Lou Murphy daughter of Mr and Mrs Keith Murphy of Greene appears daily on radio station KSMN Mason City on the Wayne Grant program between 11 00 and 11 30 a m each day Her segment is a birthday story for small fry and she is a second grade instructor in the Hampton Schools. She attended Mount St Clare College in Clinton and Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska.
The public is invited to a Spring Style Show next Tuesday March 15 at 8 00 p m in the high school auditorium. Local shops Corner Dress Shop Drake s Harrisons join live models to present afternoon beach casual and sportwear ensembles. Woman s Club members meet at 7 30 in Room 10 for a business gathering.
Greene Planning Board reports donations for the Community Rooms above the Greene Public Library. Contributions include $10 from Greene Woman's Club, $20 from the PTA, $10 from the Packard Club, and $45 from individuals. Many gifts of tableware and a stove and coffee maker have been donated. Edward M Wilson age 76 died Tuesday morning at 9 00 in Waverly Convalescent Home after years of poor health He was born May 1 1872 in Bennedette township Married Nettie Ma bel Maxwell on February 14 1895 His wife predeceased him in 1958 and one son Dale also died Surviving are five sons Clelland Janesville Leo Greene three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 00 pm at Wailhaus Mortuary with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery
The event last evening featured varsity girls defeating alumni 48 to 38 and the high school men's faculty beating the Inghseaos varsity 60 to 46. Saundra Curtis led the girls with 26 points, Judy Spratt 14, and Mary Boller 14 while Jackie Lindell added 16. On the men's faculty side Paul Lewison scored 17 and Neiman Wolters 11, with Larry Busma and Ron Slocum each at 15 for the losers.
The Greene Community School hosted the March Parent-Teacher Association meeting last Tuesday evening. Mr. Holtz led the Dance Band with solos by Stephen Rottler and Gary Kingery, followed by a Vern Remy program from Nashua. Rev. G F Butler conducted the business meeting in the president’s absence. Franklin Schuknecht acted as auctioneer for a bake sale raising $91.95. refreshments were provided by first grade parents Mr and Mrs Kenneth Knight.
Kathy Kehoe daughter of Mr and Mrs LaVern Kehoe underwent a tonsillectomy at Mitchell County hospital in Osage last Friday.

Ruth Barnett attends Drake University extension in Mason City, Helen Van Raden studies extension classes at Iowa State Teachers College in Charles City, Marion Whiteside takes night classes at Mason City Junior College, Janet Barnhart attends Wartburg College night classes in Waverly, George Rooms takes Saturday classes at Drake University in Des Moines. Ina Nichol, Paul Lewison, LaVerne Kehoe and Norman Wolters join night classes at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

Neighbors gathered at the farm home of Mr and Mrs Verlyn Sehrage last Tuesday to clean the barn and hen house. Mr Sehrage had been hospital lead for three weeks and underwent two operations.

Henry Fred Rover 67 died of a heart attack at his southwest Greene home. He married Freda Mesne on October 25 19 6 at St John s Lutheran Wilmar. Survived by wife son Lester three daughters thirteen grandchildren three brothers two sisters and other relatives. Funeral services at St John s Lutheran Wilmar, burial Rose Hill Cemetery Greene. Rev Robert Floy officiated. Hamilton s Funeral Chapel in charge.

Extension Music Specialist Max Exner will visit Butler County on Tuesday March 15 to lead two workshops in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison. At 1 15 p m the public event Fun With Music For All will be offered for anyone interested in music. At 7 30 p m the session Having Fun With Music will be for 4 Hers and 4 H leaders. The program aims to boost home and community music appreciation and involve all 29 4 H clubs in the county. Everyone is invited to attend and 4 H members are especially urged to join the evening session.
Charles E. Bloczynski joined the Winnebago Council, Boy Scouts of America, to serve Arrowhead District and Pilot Knob District. He and his wife Paula will reside in Garner. A Missouri Valley College graduate, he earned degrees in human relations and sociology, was student body president, served in the Army and Army Reserve, and completed the National Training School for Scout Executives. He previously worked on a camp staff and as a program director, is an Eagle Scout, and holds the Silver Award in Exploring.

The Cub Scouts season ended with the 8 to 9 year olds posting five wins and three losses while the 10 to 11 year olds finished three wins and three losses. The younger group defeated Allison three times and Clarksville twice. the older group beat Alison twice and Arksile once and lost to AIH son twice.
Graveside services were held at Orchard Cemetery for Anthony Kaiser infant son of AT3 and Mrs. Terry Kaiser. Born March 3, he died shortly after birth. Father based at Ream Field Imperial Beach California. Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. C S Kaiser Greene and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Clark Orchard. Great grandfather Dennis Clark.
