The Braves beat the Orioles 9 to 5 as six singles fuel a five run first inning. Dodgers stay undefeated by edging the Giants 5 to 2 with two unearned runs in the 2nd and 4th. Yankees top the Indians 7 to 1 as they rally from an early deficit and plate four more in the 2nd inning.
As high waters receded, Clarence Luck and Earl Schroeder led a cleanup at the sewage disposal plant removing entrapped rough fish. They dressed in boats and used pitchforks, hauling several hundred buffalo carp and quillback from the enclosure, reflecting a cooperative effort between Conservation and Sanitation crews.
A Swimming Pool Board was approved by the town council and formed at Jim Schroeder's home on Tuesday. Members are Jim Schroeder LaVerne Kehoe Keith Drakle Mrs Gary Rottler president and Mrs Lowell McGee secretary treasurer. The board aims to promote a better swimming program keep the pool up to date and a safe place to swim. The next meeting is July 21 at 8 00 p.m. at Schroeder Concrete and Construction Company office.

Mrs George R Watterson died July 4 at Waterloo. Born September 7 1891 Greene she taught in public schools and Iowa State Teachers College. Survived by son Ray and daughter Ruth with several relatives. Services Tuesday July st at Reid's Funeral Chapel with Rev Paul Metzger officiating burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
In Charles City, Mrs Myrtle Stager mother of Julia Green is hospitalized at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
The Butler County Fair unveils a busy lineup with Saturday night scrambles at 7:00 pm on July 26, a Little Britches Rodeo Friday at 6:20 pm July 25, and Thursday Queen Contest at 7:14 pm followed by the Demolition Derby at 7:30 pm. Additional events include 4H exhibits, horse shows, a cook-out contest, and a baseball game.
Mr Orval Kingery returned to Floyd County Memorial Hospital on Thursday evening and underwent surgery Friday morning. He will remain there for about eight days. His room number is 264. Visitors are welcome.
Richard W. Stille of LeMars is named District Conservationist for the Soil Conservation Service in the Butler County Soil Conservation District. He began work in Allison on Monday June 30. Stille replaces Thame Hogue and will direct the Allison Work Unit providing technical guidance to the district. He is married, ISU graduate, and has SCS experience since 1965 in Onawa and Le Mars.
PFC Larry E Noel son of Mr and Mrs Orin Noel arrived in Vietnam on June 5 for military service. He serves as a clerk typist handling promotions and awards for servicemen with the 5th Cavalry. The event for small children under the supervision of Mrs. Mc Burney has been postponed from Tuesday July 8 to Thursday July 10.
Pooley Lumber Co has earned a FEMIC Achievement Award for its truck fleet safety record with four or more vehicles. Dwight Pooley accepted the framed certificate from FEMIC district supervisor Richard Means in Greene. This marks the fourth year of the award for the firm amid concerns over highway accidents.
Stanley K. Van Dyke of Ackley returned to Treasure Island on July 5 after a two week home leave for his grandfather Stoffer Van Dyke's funeral. Heavy sustained rain across Iowa has raised creeks and rivers to flood levels. Four inches fell near Lake Mills pushing the Winnebago crest well above flood stage while the Shell Rock held at six feet, about fifteen inches below its late June peak. Some residents pump basements as forecasts promise clearing skies and gradual relief later in the week.
Mr and Mrs Donald Litterer of Shell Rock welcomed a son Tony Randall born June 22 at Waverly hospital weighing 4 pounds 2 ounces. He arrived home July 5 to a brother Kenny and sister Kathy with maternal grandmother in Indian Korea and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Louis Litterer.
Mrs. Darwin Ebling of Aredale won the drawing held last Saturday night by Dralle's Department Store. She receives a free vacation for four at Leech Lake in Minnesota the week of August 17 through 24.
The Holiday Shot Gun Golf event finished with four groups tied after 9 holes. The winning team comprised Steve Clapham Billy Astor Mike Brunsma Steve Kettler and Bob Curtis after a sudden death playoff, clinching victory on the 9th extra hole.
Mr and Mrs Charles Knight of Pomona California announce the birth of their son Barry Lynn born May 25 and added to the family on June 25. He is welcomed by older brother Tommy Lee and Mrs Knight is formerly Marjorie Thomas, daughter of Mrs Ira Thomas.
The Bennedette Farmers Daughters 4 H Club will hold their annual Achievement Show at the Youth Center in Greene on Saturday July 12. Exhibits must be in by 9:00 a.m. The public is invited to the program to be held at 2:00 p.m.
Steven K Johnson arrived home from Long Binh Vietnam for a 30 day leave after completing his tour of duty there He will report for duty at Fort Carson Colorado at the end of his leave He is the son of Mr and Mrs Veron M Johnson.
National Dairy Cattle Congress officials announce George Kirby and the Burgundy Street Singers will headline hippodrome shows in McElroy Auditorium for the first four days of the Exposition in Waterloo. They perform two shows daily on September 20 22 and 23 and three on September 21 with free admission for patrons. Kirby, a versatile entertainer, has a 25 year career and a repertoire of over 100 impressions. The Burgundy Street Singers, formed in college, have evolved into the Burgundy Sound and are rising in the Midwest, appearing on the Jimmie Rogers show Mondays.
The Babe Ruth team defeated Rockford 6 1 and Nashua 11 1 in three innings with strong pitching from Jim McLennan and a 4th inning surge. The Little Leaguers split with Rockford 3 9 and lost to Nashua 6 0, while Greene edged Nashua 1 0 on Tom Anderson’s two hit effort.

Mr and Mrs Paul Grendler of Toronto Canada adopted an eight month old girl named Jean Katherine. She has a three year old brother Peter to welcome her to the new home. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs August Grendler.
The Country Club hosts Ladies Day today with events open to all. July 12 and 13 feature the 2nd Annual Husband and Wife State Ec-Lec-Tic Tournament. A steak fry on July 12 runs 6 to 9 PM, with a 9 PM to 1 AM dance by Cal Meyers. July 17 offers a family picnic. all members and guests welcome even non players.
