Reese-Price advertises a local store as the only outlet in town selling Walker boots and shoes. It claims the Walker shoe is the best yet for wear and air, and highlights shoes for boys, plus a line of ladies and gents footwear and heavy country wear.
A collage of notes on contentment versus strive, social events, a counterfeit coin warning, pneumonia and measles outbreaks, a ground hog forecast, religious revivals with many conversions, music and lectures, a yellowed mention of a mighty blizzard story, and local ads for Warner’s Sarsaparilla.
Mr S W Gazelrigg of Terre Haute installed Hess guest call and fire alarm system at the Commercial Hotel with 37 calls. He offered to supply 50 fire and police alarm boxes for the city at 275 dollars, to be owned by the city and mounted on telegraph poles with Yale locks. The city council may review the plan at the next session. The city’s Bell Company telephone order was rejected as unsatisfactory. The Hazelrigg system is from Central Electric Co of Chicago.
A program of entertainments under the Y union and W C T U aids the Free Library and Reading Room at Library Hall Talburt's block starting 7 30 pm Friday. Also obituaries births and county notices include the death of Harvey Alison pneumonia and various births in Greencastle with dates and names. The Fifth Congressional District nominating convention met in Greencastle with Joseph I Irvin named for district committeeman and Martinsville chosen as the nominating convention site. County committees and leadership changes noted.
In the February Century Life of Lincoln an astonishing note shows Mr. Seward proposed a plan that would have altered policy and nearly surrendered the presidency to the Secretary of State. Nicolay and Hay reveal Lincoln’s measured response and continued trust. The Lincoln League reports a city branch organized with Jesse W. Weik as president and an active second meeting with new members. Major Birch is invited to address the club next Tuesday evening.
Unofficial word says Rev. T. X. Logan of Greencastle will be reassigned to the Rushville Catholic parish. Logan told the Times he has not received formal notification from Bishop Chatard but expects the transfer. His likely successor is Father Mack.
