Candidates Milroy Gordon Bainbridge Low Smedley Greencastle and Jas O'Brien Washington Twp announced for County Superintendent, board adjourned.

Unknown individuals entered a saloon on Monday night and spilled whisky while leaving a coat and keys to confuse investigators. Various local items note millinery by Mrs. Priest, visitors from Greencastle and Fillmore, a wedding planned for May, and councilman-elect Jacob Ratliff. The North End detectives plan an Opera House visit and local residents are advancing in trades from printing to telegraphy.
Barnard residents anticipate corn planting as J W Julian ships enslaved people to Indianapolis. Uncle Calvin Barnard will soon move to a new residence. Dr J H Heady remodels his home in modern style. Sabbath school organized at the schoolhouse last Sunday with Dr H C Rogers as Superintendent. James Dodds adds a new barn extension. Calvin Becklehimer ditches for M T Darnall. Mrs Lilia Booker visited her father-in-law Frank Booker last Sunday. Charley Carver of Crawfordsville built a livery stable at North Salem. John H Hardin plans to raise 800 bushels of corn on eight acres. J T Blaydes moves to East Tennessee. James Miller tills land with J M Robbins this year.

Coffin wins Inter-State contest at Jacksonville. Indiana breaks new ground for the Oratorical Association.
Reading lists promotion updates at Asbury University with receptions for Coffin and Ridpath, new faculty secretary Gobin, and battalion camp plans. Local ads promote Missouri beef, Frank Hays suits, Beck’s cash store goods, Burnett’s goods, and a range of millinery and shoes in the city.
The Putnam County Sunday-School Union met at Fillmore on April 29 1861 led by President J A Allison. Geo W Switzer elected secretary in D Langdon’s absence. Papers on gathering in and teaching methods were presented by Mollie Perry Wallace Rusan and others. A hearty dinner followed and a county map fund raised. The session adjourned to Greencastle on July’s last Monday with Elder Benny teaching May 1 lessons.
