The town mourns the death of Charley Hathaway who passed away about 9 o clock after a lingering illness. He was a favorite among many friends and his funeral was held yesterday afternoon at his father’s residence.

A young man named Torr was convicted at Greencastle Junction on Monday evening after a young woman accused him of sending an indecent valentine. The assault left the victim with facial marks lasting several days, and the paper notes the punishment as deserved if guilt is proven.

A crowd attended last Sunday's lecture by Will Carleton on The Science of Home. Members of the Philological literary society attempted to impeach their president Mr Holloway. The prior Saturday evening Carleton delivered a verse discussion titled The Golden Horse to a large audience, praised as one of the finest lectures ever heard.
