DePauw University faculty urged a Friday celebration focused on disease prevention. A special chapel service will open activities, with a university official address on civic improvement. Earl Lane was named master of the day. the band will march in the parade and perform on the courthouse lawn.

Health measures urged to make Greencastle healthier

Citizens advocate removing the old woolen mill and an old house at Madison and Jacob streets. They call for airtight garbage cans emptied daily, draining Pittmans pond to stop mosquitoes, street can waste disposal, enforcement of spitting bans, and maintaining lawns with trees flowers and weed control to improve the city’s appearance and health.

Property holders on South College Avenue oppose proposed street improvements and call for sidewalks on both sides. They ask the matter be considered by the City Council.
