Penal farm escapes during reformatory transfer
Two penal farm escapees sentenced to the Indiana reformatory tried to flee as they were being returned from the courthouse. Deputy sheriffs Braden Marshall O'Hair and Tom Morgan controlled the group of 16 to 23 year old inmates, two of whom broke free and struggled with Morgan before bystanders halted the escape.

ZR-1 Dirigible to Show Over Green County in Missouri Race Run
Rear Admiral W A Moffett announced the ZR-1 giant Navy dirigible will travel from Lakehurst to St Louis for airplane races next month with stops at intervening cities if possible. The flight followed a 450 mile Lakehurst Washington leg and back, proving weather does not bar the ship. A mooring mast will enable safe handling in gusty winds. The craft may pass over Green castle on its east to west route.

Green Castle Canning Co Cans 600 Tons Tomatoes
The Greencastle Canning Co reports it has canned 600 tons of tomatoes this season, about half last year's total, from roughly 260 acres. Warm weather could extend the crop for about two weeks. Tomato size and quality were good but ripening was slowed by cold spells and heavy rains. Price is $10 per ton, same as last year. Pumpkin canning to start mid next month at $5 per ton.

Indianapolis stockyards report 9 000 hog receipts with most prices at 8.65 to 8.75 and top at 8.80. Pigs cited 8.25 down, sows steady with heavy hogs at 7.25 and lighter at 8.00. Mrs Clara Peck Dies After Illness of Over a Year
Mrs Clara E Peck 51 widow of Isaac Peck died Monday night at her East Seminary Street home after more than a year of stomach trouble. Funeral at 2 50 PM Wednesday at the home with Rev Levi Marshall of the Christian Church officiating. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. She leaves five siblings including Mrs Lucy Bula and Charles Rector. An operation a year ago failed to improve her condition.

Charley Turner of Belle Union pled guilty to selling liquor to Federal officer Jude Bryan and received a 100 dollar fine and a 30 day jail sentence. He had faced a prior charge for selling liquor to three Cloverdale boys, but that case was dismissed after his plea. The bondsman pushed for immediate disposal to secure Turner as a witness against Joe Hurst in a circuit court case. Turner's health was cited as a reason for the light sentence.
