A man entered the main office of the American Zinc Products plant after 4 AM during pay day week and attempted to break into the safe. The safe dial was broken off the lock with a heavy tool, but the intruder did not access the safe or leave tools behind. An unknown job seeker circling the mill may have been involved. The night watchman saw nothing amiss at 4 AM, and mill records were inaccessible due to the damaged safe.
