Heath Turned Down When Bid Is Lowest
The Van Buren township advisory board in Clay county rejected Walter Heath of Greencastle for a school building contract though his bid was several thousand dollars lower than the next bid. Heath has filed suit to compel awarding to him, arguing contracts go to the lowest and best bidder unless good reason is shown. Local officials defend the choice, citing sufficient reasons to hire the next lowest bidder, while Heath’s prior work establishes his reputation in the county. The State Board of Accounts is questioned for tolerating the action.

Stolen Ford Involved in Sheriff Sears Booze Raids
Sheriff Lawrence Sears seized a Ford containing 40 gallons of white mule after a 15 mile chase. William H. Secrest of Indianapolis claimed the car was stolen, faces a liquor transport charge, and posted a $1,000 bond as his trial was set for September 29. Secrest Jr. is alleged to have driven the vehicle.

Hold Up Men Take $506 From Metropolitan Agent Stringer
Two auto bandits robbed Ivers Stringer along the Crawfordsville road near the Big Four Arch. They escaped with about $506 including two days large premiums and Stringer’s receipts. He identified two men about 35, well dressed. revolver-wielding suspect demanded cash and change. Stringer was frightened and fled after the theft. Local police sought clues through the State Agency office in Terre Haute and other contacts.

Next Presbytery Meeting Set in Columbus
The Indianapolis Presbytery closed its fall meeting with business in the morning and a communion service. Columbus was chosen as the site for the spring meeting. Rev. W. L. Raphael named a commissioner to the Synod meeting in Terre Haute next month. Dr. Grose sent a letter expressing regret at missing Presbytery and inviting attendance at the chapel service. Dr. C. W. Harris and Rev. Raphael were named as representatives to the University Chapel service. Local ministers invited to sit as corresponding members of Presbytery and hosted by Mr. Raphael at dinner.
