The New York to Spokane air derby opened with 15 Class A entries at Roosevelt Field. The first three planes started on time, but a fatal crash near Long Valley, New Jersey, claimed pilot R. E. Hudson and passenger J. Radike in the first flight.
Perry Harmless a 72 year old wealthy farmer near Mansfield Rockville was found to have died this morning from a self inflicted gunshot wound Authorities report he is the father of Guy Harmless a Rockville merchant
Governor Ed Jackson of Indiana sends greetings to Howard P. Savage National Commander of the American Legion at its ninth annual Paris convention. He regrets unable to attend but expresses high regard and wishes for progress in the Legion's history.
Frank McHale state Legion commander in Paris announces a plan to draft and run candidates loyal to the people and to discharge officials tainted by graft. He notes widespread political corruption in Indiana and vows a conservative program to use Legion influence to restore honesty in city and state government.
Promoter Tex Rickard faces a likely gate near 2.5 million on the Dempsey Tunney bout as 163000 seats remain unsold. Radio ads and early seat misstatements hurt sales while 3000 ringside $40 tickets were returned. Gene Tunney, at Lake Villa camp, vows to beat Dempsey and trains hard to maintain his edge.
Chicago dispatch reports boxer Jack Dempsey declares he will KO in the fourth round. He spoke to Jeremiah Lavadis the massage man, thanking his loyal helper and urging him to bet on victory as he confidence grows ahead of the title bout.
T. P. Tilman, a member of the state board of tax commissioners, is here for four days discussing personal property assessments with Greencastle businessmen. Assessments in numerous cases were found either too low or too high, and erroneous assessments are subject to change.

promoter Tex Rickard announced Dempsey vs Tunney will enter the ring around 10 PM Central daylight saving time with 8:15 PM preliminaries. If rain appears the bout may start earlier. weather is expected cool and moonless.

The dog show Thursday and rodeo nightly on McKeen Field are highlights, along with horse shows Saturday morning and numerous exhibits and concessions run by John Cartwright. Easter saddle horses shown by Charles Easter and daughter add recurring appeal.
Sheriff Edward Eitel reports six vagrants were detained Monday night after being found wandering the streets. The men told officers they were seeking work and spent the night in county jail bunks before breakfast and release.
Alberta Louise Waldron through her attorney F S Hamilton files for divorce and restraining order in Putnam Circuit Court against Glen Oliver Waldron. They married April 17, 1927 when she was 15. She alleges cruelty, threats to parents, failure to provide, and asks for court costs and doctor bill payments plus access restraining order. The defendant works at Midwest Stone Quarry.
Paul Wright of the Owl Drug store in Indianapolis reports the death of his mother in Greencastle. The funeral is set for Thursday at Walnut Chapel with burial in Walnut Chapel cemetery.
Twelve planes in the New York to Spokane air derby reached St. Paul after a hazy dawn takeoff from Mineola. Leslie Miller piloting the Spirit of St. Paul led the field to refuel and resume toward Fargo and Bismarck, amid fog and headwinds.
Lawrence Tate Murdoch a 19 year old DePauw University freshman and apprentice seaman was killed Sunday night when a northbound Northwestern train struck him near the Great Lakes naval station and Kenosha Wis. Coroner to hold inquest. aunt suspects suicide from despondency amid amnesia claims. Burial planned in Shelbyville.
