Enrollment Surges Near 1800 at Liberal Arts and Music Schools

University enrollment to date reaches 1731 with 1476 Liberal Arts majors 160 Music majors 95 combined. Freshman numbers up. large return of upperclassmen noted. Liberal Arts counts 832 men 740 women with 468 Rector Scholars among 1572 total. Music School totals 250 including specials. 50 more majors registered.

Flowers to Open Republican Campaign in Putnam County

The Hon. Montaville Flowers will open the Republican campaign in Putnam County tonight at 7 30 with an address in the Court Room of the courthouse. A Greencastle band concert will precede the event.

Putnam Circuit Court Term to Open Monday

The Putnam Circuit Court will open its September term on Monday after a vacation period. Several large damage suits from other counties are on the docket for trial, though no major local cases are listed for trial this term.

Snow and Cold Hit Northwest Zone

In the Northwest the Medicine Bow forest reports four inches of snow at Sand Lake and freezing water. Butte Montana reports the first snow of the season at 1 30 pm. Idaho Falls notes light snow with white blotting and a cold north wind, with Porcattello hills covered for the first time this year.

Health Chore Pennants Awarded to Putnam County Schools

Two of fourteen health chore pennants from the national Tuberculosis Association go to Putnam County schools in Indiana. One pennant honors Carpentersville School taught by R. L. Beck, the other to Martha J. Ridpath School in Greencastle taught by Susie Talbott. A state wide health chores campaign recorded pupil observance of health laws and duties, with teachers reporting to the national association. The Putnam schools received the pennants for outstanding performance.

Plans for Putnam County Centennial celebrations include a forenoon parade with about 200 floats and an afternoon through evening pageant at McKeen field. Schools collect relics. windows and courthouse displays. a large tent will showcase articles. pageant by county teachers.

Aviators Near Goal In Round World Flight

Dallas crowds welcome six intrepid airmen nearing the final stages of the round world flight. A 6 hour 54 minute leg from Muskogee to Dallas battled head winds as the crew pressed toward El Paso and a sequence of western stops ending at Seattle.

Fred Reising High Man at Gun Club Shoot

Fred Reising led Greencastle Rod and Gun Club weekly practice with 72 percent while high wind reduced scores. Ed Brockway and Bernard Handy followed at 69 and 68 percent as seventeen entrants, many new members, competed in the growing club.

Miss Kemp Takes Church Position in Pittsburgh

Amelia D. Kemp, secretary to Bishop George R. Grose during his presidency, has accepted the post of executive secretary of the Woman's Missionary Society of the United Lutheran Church with headquarters in Pittsburgh. She recently assisted in registration and has managed student loan funds for the Church and the University.

Greencastle Boys Arrested With Quart of White Mule

Ernest Watson and Roy Aubrey, both teens, were arrested near the Ford Garage after officers watchlisted them for days. Aubrey carried a quart jar of liquor when halted in the rear alley, and both youths were taken into custody by Sheriff Sears and jailed.
