Berkeley Cal September 18 A wind driven blaze destroyed a large residential area in the northeast section leaving between twelve thousand and fifteen thousand people homeless. Police and soldiers guarded ruins as refugees sought aid and missing children were reported. Damage total estimate tops three million with further losses expected in personal belongings and valuables. Fifty injuries were recorded with no confirmed fatalities.

Wrecking car wrecked in Bainbridge collision
A wrecking car from Bainbridge Garage collided with a Ford Touring car east of Bainbridge Sunday morning. Eight people in the Ford were hurled from the vehicle but not badly injured. The wrecking car was damaged severely, its motor block broke, and it was put out of commission.

Burial of John Haskell in Forest Hill Cemetery
The body of John Eddy Hub Haskell, DePauw Class of 1897 and former Greencastle resident, was brought from Chicago for burial Wednesday in Forest Hill Cemetery. He practiced medicine in Chicago after studying there following DePauw graduation. Known as Hub, he played first base for DePauw baseball, and died after a stroke. His wife Estelle Baldwin of Marion, also a DePauw graduate, survived him.
