The drive to raise funds for a deserving cause is scheduled for the week of September 29 to October 4, as proclaimed by Governor Goodrich.
Governor Goodrich proclaims a week for Indiana Jewish Relief Work. Putnam County aims to raise $7,000 with Sol Sudranski named county chairman. Township chairmen and committees across Putnam County named include Greencastle, Jackson, Clinton, Marion, and others with numerous local leaders listed. Continuous notice indicates a statewide mobilization and community fundraising drive.
Greene county culling reduces 71 of 296 hens as poor producers, then marketed after seven days. Clay County hosts growing farm association membership and lime and seed treatment demonstrations. Noble county seed wheat formaldehyde trials yield mixed outcomes. Shelby county pig club showcases. Senators prepare to vote on PAGT and debate the League of Nations as a session begins. Plans were announced to skip the formal first reading to expedite action.

Miss Ethel Gibson daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Gibson wed Gerald Handy son of Mr and Mrs W T Handy in Terre Haute on July 4 in a kept secret ceremony. They announced the marriage to friends on Saturday and will reside with the Handy family.
Green Castle district conference of the Methodist Episcopal church in Terre Haute on September 15 adopted a salary minimum: married ministers at least 1500 dollars and single ministers at least 1000 dollars. The action aims to address pulpit vacancies, with the conference noting no strike threat. Two ministers were admitted and thirty-five licenses renewed.
Engineers for the state highway in Greencastle view a survey for improvements on the National Road between Reelsville and Mt. Meridian to be made soon.
Miss Katherine Kleinbub and Fred Myers were married Thursday September 11 at the Christian church parsonage in Anderson. The couple, surprised by the wedding return to Elwood after a Steubenville residence, will live in Steubenville, Ohio where the groom works.
G. R. Harr, assistant State Engineer, with other engineers and officials, visits the National Road between Mt. Meridian and Reelsville to view grades and curves as a basis for plans. No work will occur this year. a contract for the section east of Mt. Meridian has been let, with possible work next year.
Dr. Wm McGaughey and nurse Miss Ludolph examined about half the junior and senior high students this morning. Heart and tonsil checks were emphasized as the program aims to boost health and reduce sickness. Former graduates Miss Clavenn Rector Miss Francis Rector Miss Stella Shoptaugh Miss Beulah Yeager and Miss Ruby Wright visited, all of DePauw University students. Wright led last year’s senior class. Some students requested afternoon exemptions from work during class time, discussed with Superintendent E C Dodson.
The Lear residence was burglarized Saturday evening while family members were at a circus. Clothing was taken. investigators suspect circus attendees may be involved.
Robbers entered the Lear residence on North Indiana Street by raising a window while the family attended a circus. Several winter garments were stolen from closets after the screen was removed from a front porch window. Suspects are thought to be circus followers, with circus train cars seen nearby.
Lafayette Ind Sept 15 An agreement between the Indiana Corn Growers Association and Farm Journal of Philadelphia enrolls all Five Acre Corn contestants in the Farm Journal Contest national event. Indiana rules apply with one moisture detail. Prizes include 1000 for first in gold medal and cash and 500 for second and 250 for third plus blue and red ribbons and ten county certificates.
Bishop Edwin Holt Hughes of Holden Massachusetts visits Green Castle with his son Edwin H. Jr and daughter Caroline. Edwin H. Hughes Jr will enter as a junior and Caroline as a freshman. The Vermilion restaurant undergoes a move to new quarters on the west side of the square.
