Police search the city for others after a man black suspect shot a local police officer during a raid on a craps game at 216 Anderson Street. The victim died and authorities say others involved may be at large.
Indianapolis Sept. 11 Sergeant Wade Hull of the police department was killed during a raid on a craps game at 216 Anderson Street. Five men were rounded up and questioned, including Mieme Nance John Johnson Charles Simpson William Rogers alias Fox and Upshaw Worthington known as Big Boy who is suspected of fatally shooting Hull. Worthington was captured after midnight by Detectives Rademaker Peats and Patrolman Sneed.
F. G. Gilmore a Greencastle merchant for thirty seven years has sold his east Washington street store to J. H. Pitchford of Fillmore who recently sold his Fillmore store to Bastain and Wright. Pitchford takes immediate possession and will conduct the business while Gilmore retires from active mercantile work.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Smith and children visited Mr and Mrs John Bert near Greencastle. John McDowell of Summer Illinois visits daughter Mrs Ralph Howard. Miss Elynn Talkington on the sick list. Majorie and Elenor Perry to Hillsborough Indiana to teach. W T Vestal visited Filden McNef and family. Ladies Aid of M E church meets Wednesday. Ernest Smiths children Mil dred and John Layman attended the State Fair. Clara and Augusta Glidewell and Jose Harmless visited Will Glidewell family. Students Margaret Jones and Reuben Stwalley will attend Greencastle High School. Mrs Alf Curtis sick.

Psychologists and anatomists from the University of Pennsylvania dismissed hatmakers’ claim that men’s heads are growing larger. Dr R Tait McKenzie mocked the theory as unfounded and joked about swelled heads while Dr Lightner Witherhead questioned the fact and expressed doubt.

Lexington residents recall the heroism of Sergt Willie Sandlin of Hell for Certain Kentucky. The Army citation credits him with extraordinary gallantry at Bois de Forges France on September 26 1918. He charged machine gun nests killed dozens and helped the line advance. He was wounded later and carries shrapnel in his hand and forehead.

William Kriegh, who recently sold his farm in Hendricks county, is holding a public auction of personal property there today. Oscar J. Rector of this city was an auctioneer at the sale.
M O Welehaus a farmer in Nippenose valley and a neighbor were walking when dogs began barking oddly. They found a large hole with a bear head and forepaws visible and then saw the bear flee toward Wherry. They returned to the den and poked it, discovering a litter of cubs untouched due to being unarmed.
Rural Route 1 report shows the Perkins reunion held at Wm Perkins home in Morton. Wm Wysong and wife joined the 43rd C B reunion at Green Castle. Wanetta Riddle visited Lota Dean Thomas, and Eber Lloyd and wife were in Green Castle. Aileen Newgent and Martha Thomas attended the State Fair on Wednesday.
M. and Mrs. Arthur Gabes of north College welcomed a daughter born Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Dow Carrington of near Putnamville welcomed a son born Tuesday.
Greencastle council notes city 13 broke with an overdraft of 94.44 dollars. Treasurer reports total borrowing of 510,000 this year and plans to borrow an additional 10,000 to cover current expenses. City warrants were turned down.
Greencastle Indiana sits overdrawn by 4.44 with city treasurer Fred Masten reporting a broke city. Warrants are being refused and residents have learned there is no money to pay. The city has borrowed 10 000 this year and plans to borrow another 10 000 to cover expenses until tax money arrives in mid October. The council seeks a higher tax levy to meet ongoing needs.
The estate of Charles Warren Fairbanks held three fourths of the stock in Indianapolis News Co. after years of denial by the paper's management. Federal statutes required sworn disclosure of ownership, sparking surprise and calls for explanation as the newspaper's political alignment and nonresponse drew scrutiny.

John A. Tennyson of Wheeling filed suit in circuit court for $5,000 damages against former Wheeling police officer Riley Briggs. The complaint alleges Briggs fractured Tennyson’s bone in a handshake, leaving him crippled for life.
Local college fraternity building committee buys the professor's home for 8000 dollars to serve as their chapter house. Deal closed Wednesday.
Prof H B Longden sells the Longden Home on East Anderson Street for 18000 to Jackson Boyd a member of the Phi Kappa Psi building committee. The fraternity will occupy the house as their fraternity home while plans for a new Phi Psi house are postponed due to material costs. The fraternity has been without a home since burning of the Phi Psi House over a year ago and occupying the Johnston house on Walnut Street. Boyd will rent the property to the fraternity.
Miss Bernice Olcott of Aurora Indiana has been appointed by Ian McCutchan of DePauw to fill the vacant art post and will oversee the art departments in the city schools. A Detroit Thomas Art School graduate and former DePauw student, she previously led art in Effingham public schools last year.
