John G. Bryson, Indiana Fifth District Republican chairman and slush fund head, has been summoned to appear before a Senate committee in Chicago to testify about campaign funds and his role in the Indiana state campaign.
The Presbyterian Church hosts a Sunday evening union service themed Industry hudestey with laymen from Greenentie churches in charge. Speaker Elwood Haynes, a layman of recognized ability, will address the gathering. All workers in Greencastle are urged to attend.
Will award a beauti ful banner to the township outside Greencastle. The event aims tosend the biggest delegation to the County Sunday School Convention at the Christian Church in Greencastle. Two sessions are planned at 2:00 PM and 7:40 PM followed by a union night service across area churches.
The Red Men and Pocahontas groups announce an invitation dance at Chely Hall this Saturday night. Frank Cannon and his wife visit Rushville. L D Dodd of Greencastle will hold ten nights of services at Flatwood School starting Sunday at 7 30. A Community House effort may form during these meetings. Banks will close Monday for Labor Day. Locust Street M F E Church captains and team members meet at 7 30 tonight for a final conference. All urged to attend.

Washington reports more than 4,000 disabled exservice men directly placed in agricultural training with about 1,500 more approved for the course. The program groups men by education level, from college graduates to illiterate farm youths, and introduces a guidance school and modular agricultural units to ease entry into training.
Nogales chamber of commerce teams with Charles Butters to form a Mexican silver producers association. If minting is restored 500 million ounces of silver would be available for hard money and small change. Plan envisions rebuilt mints financed by the association, profits repaid, then handed to the federal government under supervision.
After a day and a half without gas Greencastle residents regained supply near noon today when the Gas Company restored mains service. The outage began Thursday at around six oclock in the morning forcing households to rely on electric and oil stoves for heat and light. Throughout recent months similar breakdowns have interrupted gas on several occasions.
The notice emphasizes universal registration for the November election with registration blanks fillable at home. It specifies a countywide registration site tomorrow from 1 AM to 9 PM, with requirements for age and two witnessing voters if not delivered in person.
A capacity crowd gathered Thursday at Roughdale Opera House to hear Judge Charles Batt and Ben Seifres, Democratic candidates for the Ninth District, denounce the Republicans and praise Democratic legislation. Greencastle delegates and the Drum Corps traveled to attend.

Local grocers announce they will close all day on Monday September 6 in observance of a legal holiday. Merchants affected include J. F. Long & Son, J. F. Bailey & Sons, Grogan & Miller, Busby & Daggry, H. A. Sellers & Co, Todd & Son, O. F. Browning, W. H. Vandiver, Mrs. Spencer Mahan Riley & Summers, S. D. Early, and Matthews & Keller.
Hog prices fell 10 to 15 cents at opening in Indianapolis with top at 16.50 and most hogs selling 15.75 to 16.10. Heavyweights near 15.50 while pigs bring 15.50 and packing sows 14.00. Local packers bought 3,000. outsiders took the rest. Cattle slow and weak, calves steady, lambs down about one dollar to 11.60.
The submarine 5.5, partly flooded after a dive fifty miles off Cape Henlopen, is towed to League Island navy yard by the steamer Alanthus. The crew and officers are safe aboard, with rescue coordinated by Army Transport General Goethals and radio messages to the Philadelphia navy yard.

Independence authorities reveal Glen Rose, a 19 year old Oklahoma school teacher, posed as a harvest hand by cutting hair and wearing overalls. A pocket mirror exposed the ruse as she worked with male laborers before admitting she is not a girl.
In Lexington Kentucky Andrew Sear a minister was freed in federal court after evidence showed he warned moonshiners of revenue officers approach. His brother Bella Sear paid a $50 fine for the same offense. The court ruled a minister may warn a member of his flock without criminal intent.
Athletes and staff prepare as Greencastle High School readies for a new term. Enrollment is strong with about five hundred students, new teachers join the faculty, and classrooms are reorganized including a new Ridpath Building wing for crowded grades.
Frank Bittles and James Bittles were summoned to Methodist hospital in Indianapolis this afternoon as doctors prepared a third operation on their brother. The patient has been critically ill for nine weeks with an abscess beneath the skull.
