Harold Ker of Cloverdale faces a single assault charge filed by Troy Broad of Cloverdale following an alleged fight between two young men, ages 19 and 20, with Walker of Cloverdale not charged.
Nellie C Young superintendent of the Children's Division of the Jana Sunday School Association will speak at the County Sunday School Convention. The event is Sunday at 2 00 pm at the Canaan M Church Floyd Township. A banner will be awarded to the township with the largest attendance.
The Zine Mill diamond is in first class shape as Portland Mills seeks a strong showing. Mary Hirt, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simpson Hirt, will travel to Cincinnati to attend Oldenburg College for Women.
Last February Mrs. Lawrence DeVore bought a hat for their son in New York City and had it sent to Crawfordsville by parcel post. The hat was thought lost until a package arrived marked India and Crawfordsville. The father paid duties equal to the hat price and extra to have it cleaned after its globe trotting voyage.
William Bradley, 18, a black prisoner from Putnamville penal farm, was captured in Brazil after stealing a horse and buggy from William Scherb in Staunton. He fled, stopped by Officer Sawyer at National Avenue and Depot Street, escaped into a vacant house, and hid in a clothes press when his hiding place was discovered by accident. Three other inmates escaped the farm Monday night. Bradley is from Connersville.
Miss Mary Birch and Miss Grace Birch have returned home from a visit with friends in Chicago. Mrs Alec Lockridge is confined to her home by illness.
Violent clashes erupt across Logan County West Virginia with deputy sheriffs and volunteers killed and state troops rushed to Crooked Creek areas. Officials warn of potential 4000 to 6000 armed attackers and declare heightened alert as fighting continues along Blair Beech Creek and Minl Creek fronts.

Camp DePauw opens Aug 27 at Culver as 40 to 60 players train for football and basketball ahead of Sept 24 Green Castle game and Oct 1 Notre Dame showdown.
Walter Eckersall and four All-American men will assist at Culver camp as DePauw builds a new football team. The goal is to train in five weeks and field the best possible squad against Notre Dame with hopes of a tough game and future machine progress. A big dinner of the DePauw Athlete council is planned during the Wabash game in Indianapolis as recruitment accelerates.
Harold Walker of Cloverdale filed an affidavit with the prosecuting attorney against Troy Broadstreet alleging provocation after Broadstreet charged assault in a warrant. Both boys were arrested and released on bond. Cases set for early September term.
A meeting of the city business men is set for this evening at 7 30 at the county agent’s office in the courthouse to discuss Fall Festival plans. All interested are invited to attend.
Hog prices fell by about 50 cents at the opening of the total livestock market. General sales ranged from 825 to 9 per head with pigs from 8.50 down and sows 6.50 down. Local buyers purchased about 3,000 head while outsiders took roughly 5,000. Calves steady at 12 down, sheep and lambs steady with top lambs at 7.50. Prospects indicated lower cattle prices ahead.
The girls of S C Prevo & Sons Store hosted a dinner Wednesday at Mrs Black Tea House to honor Ruth Nevins who has been employed there this summer. She departs next week to resume her schooling.
Tonight the Greencastle band performs at the band stand on the square. Saturday the Harmony band, supported by the Red Men, offers another concert on the same stand after securing merchant subscriptions.

Robert Barton carries the message to Scotland for delivery and awaits official receipt before a public statement. The cabinet is said to have redrafted their reply after the Belfast riots.
A sparse sale Tuesday at Corn Stalk Valley saw slow bidding as cattle averaged about $50 per head. The report lists numerous local visits and gatherings, including an 80th anniversary at the Nichols home and multiple families visiting or hosting across the area. Several residents, including Mrs Gibbons and Mr Bryan, are noted as ill or visiting relatives.
