Greencastle gears up for a two day event featuring the Putnam County Corn Show the fall festival and a Friday night masque revel. Hundreds compete in displays of county products a baby show parades and a lodge procession promise a lively program with large crowds and festive fun.
DePauw coach Buss reshapes the 1920 squad focusing on punting and forward passing. Stew Norris returns to practice showing 60 yard punts while Gallo and Adams develop into reliable place kickers. The Tigers, boasting a strengthened line and driving offense, prepare for Franklin Valparaiso Centre and Wabash, aiming to overcome past passing weaknesses.
The Big Fish passenger seaplane with ten aboard left Sunday morning and later went missing. It re arrived in Nassau at 5 50 PM after stops at Bimini to wait out winds. Among the passengers were Mr and Mrs John W Gaither of New Albany Indiana. The Gaithers had gone to Florida four weeks ago. Indiana revival meeting participation noted.
At DePauw University a new social date rule was adopted by a mass meeting in McHarry Hall. The Woman's Self Government Association proposed two recommendations: self control in the number of engagements and a scholarship standard for residence houses. Afternoon callers remain allowed at the campus shop or on campus.
Hog sales fell 50 cents at the opening while pigs rose and sows stayed steady. Top hogs fetched 14.75 with several 14.35 to 14.50. light hogs 14.00 to 14.10. Cattle and calves showed strength with steers near 17 and calves at 16.50. sheep and lambs also strong, best lambs around 11.90.
In Indianapolis on October 20, reports note Senator James E. Watson’s claim that the United States never officially declared war on Germany. His wartime rhetoric and postwar positions show shifting stances from 1918 to 1920 as he backed or denied a state of war depending on political aims.
A meeting of all those interested in the hospital movement is set for Friday evening at 7 20 at the Assembly room of the courthouse. All committees will report and important matters will be taken up. The call invites all, with special urging for women to attend.
Rodney David, county jailer at Henderson Kentucky, discovered a crude self sustained still inside the jail operated by seven white prisoners. The setup used a coal oil can and smaller vessel with wire made from blankets to produce white mule from sour corn bread. Jailer noticed a pungent odor from the improvised still and investigated after complaints about corn bread portions, revealing the operation.
Mrs Sarah Comer Shoppell age 58 widow of Henry Shoppell died Tuesday night around 10 at the home of her daughter Mrs Roscoe Zaring six miles south of town on the Greencastle and Manhattan road after more than three years illness. She was born September 14 1862 near Poland Owen County and moved with her parents in 1887 to Jasper County then Putnam County where she resided. Funeral Thursday at 2:50 pm at the Zaring home conducted by Rev A M Hootman Burial in Boone Cemetery near Hamrick Station. Survived by daughter Mrs Roscoe Zaring and brothers Andrew Comer and Joseph Comer.

Samuel M. Ralston former Indiana governor addressed Jay county voters in Portland outlining why Republicans mislead on the League of Nations. He argued for public choice on war or peace and explained the league requires unanimity to pass actions.
The Greencastle Rotary Club voted to raise about 300 dollars to buy asphalt patching material and supervise repairs on Hanna Street between Locust and College avenues. They will finance twenty tons of material, request city labor and a road roller, and may hire an expert from the material company to supervise the project this fall.
Mrs C H Barnaby and sons How ard Barnaby, fresh from California, depart for their cottage at Lake Maxinkuckee for the weekend. Section two of the Women’s Union of the Christian church will host all other sections at Mrs WL Denman’s home Friday afternoon at 2:50.
A large cement-hauling truck from the Indiana Portland Cement plant lost control near Dr Hutcheson farm east of town shortly before noon. The vehicle broke through a fence and yard, inflicting substantial property damage during the national road improvement work at Stilesville.
Senator Harding's remarks about Franco American overtures are denounced by Governor Cox as a deliberate misrepresentation. Cox据 says Harding sought to deceive the public by wording that implied France endorsed a sentiment among its people.

Mr and Mrs McDonald of Green Castle were here Friday. Frank Danbury accompanied them home.
Liberty area families including the Keisers and Mustards visited relatives south or near Poland on Sunday. Paul James moved near Center Point. Effie Murburger remains ill. Aunt Sarah Rnd ers hosted Sunday visitors including the Syea ter and Woolf families and Katherine Tappy. Mrs Rader sick and not improving.
Mr and Mrs Perry Downey visited with Mr and Mrs James Cline on Sunday. Mary Bryan called on Ruth Higgins. EE Buis and daughter Helen and Oran Buis and wife visited Glen Burgess and family. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Burgess Thursday. Emma Parner of Martinsville visits Myrtle Storm and sons, Florence Robinson visits MB Lechman, Amy Buis visits Dessie Bryan in Fillmore on Friday afternoon.
Washington reports Count Debearn the French chargé d affaires told Undersecretary Davis that Paris has given no authority to approach Senator Harding on forming a new world association. The state department awaits a formal reply to its inquiry while denying any French intent to scrap or revise the League of Nations.
