Frank Reed an undertaker of Cloverdale purchased a seven passenger Buick sedan from Moffett Buick Agency to be converted into an ambulance and funeral car. It will be equipped at Martinsville and is Buick’s highest priced model with a 99 horsepower motor and 182 inch wheel base. Double Eagle Good-Year tires guarantee fifty thousand miles to prevent tire trouble.
Ina Gongelas 40 a German native was jailed in Crawfordsville after entering a Main street residence without knocking asking for a drink. He claimed Evanston Wyoming as home but was identified by a woman at the house and later found at Monon station with a Roachdale ticket. He offered no clear explanation for his presence in the city.
Forecast calls for snow in the northern portion starting tonight or Tuesday with rain in the southern portion on Tuesday. Temperatures to warm slightly tonight in the extreme southeast, then rise on Tuesday.
Prof Garfield Cox of Chicago University warned at a Young People’s service in the Little Theater that graft and political machines cripple Chicago finances. He blamed lack of property tax appraisals since 1927, liquor-driven graft, and a weak administration under rapid growth and diverse population, noting other cities faced similar past eras.
March 30 report from Ladoga notes Russell Bradley leads the typing class in finishing a single edition school paper. The eight page mimeo sheet covers extracurricular news and school work, with a sport page and advertisements included.
The third annual musical by the Ladoga grade and high school glee clubs will be held in the high school auditorium on Wednesday evening April 2 at eight o clock. Mrs G E Rose directs assisted by Miss Dorothy Rains.
Horace Link and Company opened a new Greene Castle furniture store with three floors of displays. About 3,630 visitors registered from nearby towns, touring living room sets, dining room furniture, rugs, and kitchen appliances showcased by managers Sunkel and Cox. A Studio Tea Room dinner followed the public opening.
Chicago dispatch reports Governor Carlton ordered Capone’s arrest and banishment if in Florida. Federal restraining orders blocked Florida sheriffs from arresting him as Capone reportedly rests at his Palm Island estate. Capone’s lieutenants declined to confirm his departure from Philadelphia.
In Greencastle twenty years ago rural and city carriers finished distributing many post cards for Faster. Wayne Gillen visits his uncle John Gough in Raccoon. Ralph Confer was named secretary of the Republican County Central committee. County Commissioner George Raines urged the county to purchase a road roller.
Rescue squads struggle through deadly gas as sixteen Pioneer Coal miners remain trapped since Saturday following a blast at Kettle Island Kentucky. Rescue teams progress slowly toward the workings where the men are believed trapped with only one surviving family member in each household nearby.
Edward FE Swanson and Robert K Webster of Lilly Research Laboratories published a March Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics article on the action of ephedrine pseudo ephedrine and epinephrine in bronchials. Webster, assistant pharmacologist, is a DePauw graduate of 1926 who attended Indiana University School of Medicine and belonged to the Commerce Club and Phi Chi. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E Webster of South Indiana Street.
Washington March 21 The comptroller of currency issued a call for the condition of national banks as of close of business March 27. Indianapolis March 31 Luther F Symons state bank commissioner issued a call for the condition of more than 740 Indiana state banking institutions as of March 27 The first call of 1980 and the last was December 3 1929 The call covers all state banks trust companies and private banks.
Mrs Raymond Riley of 401 West Liberty street received painful cuts after a collision between her husband Raymond Riley and Edgar Prevo at Walnut and Indiana streets Sunday afternoon. Both cars suffered light damage.
Miss Mary Ellen Rector of East Washington Street underwent an emergency appendectomy for acute appendicitis performed by Dr. David Ross of Indianapolis at midnight after hours of escalating pain. The operation followed a day of illness and a physician’s visit last evening.
The Indiana State Bank Department seized The Muncie Bank and Trust Company and The Mulberry Bank & Trust Company. The Muncie bank faced loan losses and frozen assets. deposits may be protected. Mulberry remains with Citizens National, while River Park State Bank had already closed last Saturday in South Bend.

Funeral services for Mrs Lou Ella O Hair wife of J F O Hair were held today at the residence with Dr L R Echardt in charge. Interment followed in Forest Hill cemetery with ritualistic service at the grave by the Green Castle Easter Star lodge led by Mrs Ruth Trembly.
R A Masons Greencastle Chapter No 22 will hold a called meeting Monday at 7 30 p m with the R A degree. C F Mathes is the high priest.
A funeral service for Howard Harris former sheriff of Putnam County and Greencastle resident was conducted this afternoon at 2 30 at Ree toy Funeral Home with Rev WyoJ Crowder officiating. Interment followed at Forest Hill cemetery. Harris died Saturday morning at his home on South College Avenue and is survived by his widow and a daughter.
