Charles J. Arnold salutes spring styles in Green Castle as the Chamber of Commerce launches its spring opening led by President Beemer Havens. He notes trends in steamships, poultry, drinks, greens, socks, spring onions, poetry, auto parking and weather with playful mock caution.

DePauw University will broadcast seven original musical numbers from the all campus production The Moan-on- Revue on station WFBM Indianapolis next Monday from 5 30 to 6 00 pm. Harold Robert of Bloomington will perform piano accompaniment. Russell Alexander DePauw publicity director will announce the program.
Mrs Betty Durham III Waveland is seriously ill after a fall from three steps at Freedom church. A trained nurse attends her and Dr W L Staughn of Crawfordsville consulted with Dr Noblitt. Daughters remain at bedside, sons expected soon.
Indianapolis March 24 athletic committee of Butler University met informally at the Indianapolis Athletic Club to discuss actions to meet association requirements after last week's N C A C S expulsion for alleged athletics predominance. Hilton A Brown reported the meeting. no recommendations were made. Board action expected soon. Members listed include P C Reilly W C Smith Emsley W Johnson Arthur V Brown W G Irvin and J W Atherton.
The Hoffman farm home two miles north of Greencastle on the Bainbridge road was damaged by a Sunday night fire caused by a kerosene stove explosion. Mrs. Hoffman, cooking supper, extinguished the blaze before the Greencastle fire department arrived.
Civil war veteran and longtime Monon Railroad foreman John O Mullane died at his Cloverdale home after a weeklong illness just before turning 86. Survived by widow Charlotte and six children, he and Charlotte celebrated sixty years of marriage last October. He served four years in the Civil War and was a Mason G A R and K of P member.
The United States Census Department announced the enumerators for Putnam County for the 1930 census to be conducted this year. April 2 marks the start of field work with a list of names including Wallace H. Spencer Frank Davis Hubert Ghromley Benjamin Jones Ruth Trembley Grace Brothers May Crawford Omer Stoner William Ader John Scott John Nelson Lawrence McGinnis Oliver P. Wright Ernest Wilson A. L. Evans Hazel Rambo TT Shetrone and Mrs Tom Boyd among others in Greencastle Cloverdale Roachdale Coatesville Russellville and Reelsville.
Frank Barnes, Danville high school coach, was named athletic director of Central Normal College in Danville. He succeeds Charles W. Hite, who resigned after salary concerns at Windfall high school. Russell Cook resigned March 1 to become Americanization director of the American Legion. Barnes will coach all sports at the college.

Six weeks into a student run rat diet experiment at Greencastle High School under Miss Ethel Ader the outcomes showed brown bread milk and spinach produced steady growth. Other menus including white bread oleo apples coffee and sugar led to instability weight changes or nervous behavior. Only the brown bread milk and spinach diet yielded normal week to week growth.
The girls in the class eagerly wrote essays detailing their conclusions about the experiment.
An Overland sedan with Indiana license 90054 burned completely on the National road west of Pleasant Gardens near midnight Sunday. Sheriff Edward Bitelforge and Deputy Alva Bryan found no owner. Witnesses described two to three men nearby and hearing explosions before the gas tank exploded.

Mrs. Pearl Boling Rose 51 wife of Ralph Rose died at 9 oclock Friday night at 246 North Ashby Street from complications after a year of poor health. Ray Phillips 21 of Mooresville died and five others injured two miles south of Plainfield on the Mooresville road after a 9 p.m. collision. Martinsville star William Sadler and Christina Smith of Mooresville were among the injured. Smith listed in serious condition.
In Greencastle the Red Cross degree of the Knight Templars was conferred on W M Sutherlin and Frank Alley at a homecoming. Marshal Johns says curfew will be enforced tonight with the curfew bell at 8 pm for all boys under 18. Merchants seek to restart the city sprinkling cart as residents complain about students in seizure attire near McKeen field.
Mrs. James McCoy 62 of Wilkes-Barre Pa died from chest injuries after a tire blew off a front wheel causing their car to leave the National road four miles east of Mt Meridian. Her husband James 62 suffered a broken shoulder and scalp wounds and was hospitalized. The couple was en route to Terre Haute to visit a brother. Funeral arrangements made after the son arrived.
George William Hadley a DePauw University senior and Sigma Chi member is hospitalized in Putnam County with a knee injury after a car in which he rode overturned several times. Freddie Thomas driver escaped injury as the Chevrolet lost its top in the wreck east of Stilesville Sunday around 5 36 p m.
Mrs Perry Boswell of Jacob Street suffered a broken bone in her right leg near the ankle when she fell while leaving an automobile Sunday morning. The injury occurred as she stepped down from the vehicle.
