DePauw to host Indiana Sports Writers Convention

Former Spencer Banker to Ask for New Trial
John H. Smith, recently convicted in Monroe circuit court of accepting deposits at Spencer’s Exchange Bank while it was insolvent, has been granted an extension to file a new trial motion. The defense now has until April 28 to prepare an error of law claim for the April term. The court will rule on the grounds for a new trial on April 28.

Train strikes an automobile near Terre Haute two dead
A Big Poor Railroad crossing crash near Terre Haute Indiana left two dead and one critically injured. Mrs Mary Bullington 20 and her son Ray Bullington six died after the automobile was demolished. Charles Minnick 63 was taken to Union Hospital and died soon after the boy. The victims were from New Loshen.

Babcock Named Dean at Kansas State Agriculture College
Dr. Rodney Babcock head of the mathematics department at DePauw University has been appointed dean of the division of general science at Kansas State Agricultural College announced by President B D Farrell. Babcock trained at Missouri Wisconsin and earned a PhD in 1924 with work in mathematics and physics. He taught at Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and authored several papers on science.

U S swimmers Dr Moore dies in auto crash at Clinton Falls
Kentland Ind March 17 four Indiana university swimming team members and coach Paul Thompson were in a head on crash seven miles north of town on State road 41. Coach Thompson and Mrs Thompson escaped injuries while Mrs Hiram Bennett of Woodland Indiana died. Dr Alexander Huestis Moore 78 died later at his home after a stroke last Friday. Surviving are two daughters Leola and Goldie Moore and sister Mrs Elizabeth Woo.

Lafayette Woman Dies in Auto Crash
Indianap olis March 17 Mrs Lillian Thornton 23 of Lafayette was killed in an auto crash when her car collided with one driven by Carl Woll. Four others were injured including Thornton's children Nora Ellen and Harry. Woll 19 of 765 North Tremont St was arrested on manslaughter and license charges.

Brazil Pharmacy Fire Damages Multiple Buildings
A fire at the Fred Keller pharmacy in Brazil Indiana caused about 12 000 in stock and building losses and damaged Jones meat market. The Miller Eckert barber shop in the basement and second floor apartments also sustained damage. The Brazil Daily Times building was threatened. The fire started in a rear shed. this is the third Keller store blaze in 25 years.

Miss Cletis Watson Dies in Fillmore Home
Miss Cletis Ruby Watson aged 24 was found dead in bed at her mother Mrs Carl Watsons Fillmore home early Sunday morning. She had tubercular illness a year. Death occurred about 130 am. Funeral services Tuesday at 2 pm at the Methodist church in Fillmore with Rev H A Sherrill officiating. Interment in Blakesburg cemetery north of Greencastle on state rear 48 near Fincastle.
