Local Men Strike Another Oil Well Near Irvine KY

A local man who leased a 4000 acre tract near Irvine Kentucky completes another oil well. The well yields a daily output of 8 to 10 barrels. The report notes a good showing of oil from the new well and marks continued activity in the area.

Oil wells move forward near Irvine Kentucky

C R Dulin and Greene county associates finish a second oil well near Irvine with 8 to 20 barrels daily. A 200 foot depth finds quality oil while a Hillis and Shoptaugh outfit drills a first vein at 10 am. Four wells planned, then shot to boost production. natural gas possible next fall. Local shareholders may form a company to continue drilling on 4000 acres. partners include Edward Houck and S C Prevo among others.

Knife Fight Near Monon Restaurant Prompts Allegations

Charley King and Artie Boswell plan a confrontation at the Monon restaurant Saturday night. Boswell was badly beaten by King who accuses Boswell of attempting to slash him with a knife.

Warrant Sworn In Greencastle Knife Fight

Artie Boswell faces an assault and battery with intent to kill charge after a bar room fight with Charley King at the Monon restaurant in Greencastle. King claims Boswell attacked with a pocket knife. Boswell was beaten and cannot appear before the mayor. King produced cuts on his coat as proof. Prosecutors expect Boswell’s arrest in Putnam Circuit Court once he recovers. Witnesses say Boswell was severely beaten. King says Boswell was intoxicated.

Hundred Oppose Junior Building Petition to School Board

In the Third Ward a petition opposing a proposed new high school building will be presented to the school board. Only eight of 128 people approached say they favor the improvement.

Petition Opposes New Greencastle Junior High School

One hundred third ward property owners and taxpayers signed a petition circulated by Spencer Mahan urging the Greencastle School Board to stop plans for a junior high or high school building. Of 128 approached, eight favored the project, twenty offered no preference, and the rest remained undecided. The group plans to present the signatures this week as a test of ward sentiment.

Drunk man arrested and fined after street disturbance

Richard White of Morton Avenue staggered along a street with a beer bottle, shouted wildly, and was arrested by Policeman Carlos Watson around 2 am Sunday. He appeared in Mayor Cooper's court and was fined $1 plus $11 costs, unable to pay and jailed.

Silvan A. Dawson, a minister, and Miss Ethel L. Henderson of Kansas Ill were wed at Rev. Gill's Cloverdale residence Sunday at 3 PM after obtaining a marriage license from County Clerk A J Hamrick. They plan to reside in Kansas Ill. The bride has taught in Kansas Ill schools. Also, the W C T U Flower Mission meets Tuesday at 2:20 PM at Mrs Racer Bittles east Washington street with program led by Mrs Hattie Moore.

Two Runaway Boys Captured Near Greencastle

Plainfield Reform School fugitives were reported heading toward Greencastle. They were seen in Filmore late Sunday night and jumped a Monon freight train north of town. Marshal Cooper and Officer Malongy traced them to Jim Bridges farm where they stole a dinner bucket. Judge James P. Hughes presided in a Clay County case in Brazil today.
