Green Castle school boards sells three homes for cash

The Greencastle school board sold the Natt, Neely O’Hair and Fred O’Hair homes on the Green castle high school lot. Sealed bids opened by Superintendent Woody produced total receipts of 667.75 dollars. Curtis and Overstreet led bids, with Parker securing the Nutt property for future use as a domestic science classroom site. Patsy Mahaney’s party of workers toured the area en route to Indianapolis after a midday celebration.

Hessian fly injuring wheat in Parke County

The Rockville Tribune reports farmers in Parke County face Hessian fly damage to the wheat crop. The fly is a two brood pest, spring and fall, stages include eggs larva pupa and winged insect. Larvae sap the plant at the base weakening the stock before maturing by midsummer.

Hessler sues Chicago Indianapolis and Louisville Railway in Putnam Circuit Court alleging a young stallion valued at 1000 dollars was injured while en route from Lafayette to Coatesville after another car struck the shipping car. The animal, rendered useless, was damaged and Hessler seeks 1100 dollars.

The Della Kappa Epsilon fraternity house at Seminary and College avenues was condemned by County Health Officer Dr. Jer ome King. Residents must vacate until plumbing and drainage are rebuilt and sanitary, with reports of deplorable conditions including a cess pool, sewage-backed drains, and risk of typhoid.
