Five Logs From Giant Putnam County Oak Sold for Veneer
The largest oak in Putnam County and likely Indiana is sold by Hutcheson Brothers to Mr. Barnaby of Washington township. Five big logs were hauled to Greencastle on Friday, with the butt log reaching near midnight. The veneer will be used for Victrola and Columbia phonograph cases. Barnaby notes only Turkey Run has a tree of similar size. A photo of the five logs will be taken today. Log haulers were Jack Greenlee, Lee Surber, and Tobe Nelson.

On July 26 six sailors died in a boiler blast aboard the U S S Melville a destroyer tender of the Pacific fleet anchored in New Mexico waters.
