City council accepts completion of sewer work by Foulkes Contracting Co after the city engineer files a report certifying conformity to contract specs. Property owners must obtain permits to connect.
City council, in a Friday meeting, accepted the sewer project by Foulkes Contracting after A A Lane certified compliance with contract specifications. Permits, plumber bonds, and laterals rules were outlined, with inspections by Street Commissioner Pierce before final use and an estimated cost around 68000 dollars. The system reportedly handles only sewage, with test rains showing no surface water.
Booster Club delegation and Greencastle band will travel to Fincastle for an ice social at a church on Tuesday evening July 20, not the upcoming Thursday as announced. Roachdale chautauqua will bar the north Putnam church festival next Thursday. Booster Club members are asked to note the date change and be prepared for the July 20 trip to Union Chapel church in northwest Putnam County. Committee members are A. B. Hanna Ernest Stoner and E. E. Caldwell.
Dr. F. M. Oliver, 60, of Fincastle and a noted county veterinary, demonstrated by cutting and shocking a two acre field of wheat with an old scythe and cradle. It marks the first time in years wheat has been cut in Putnam county by this method.
Affidavits filed in Justice of Peace Phillip Frank's Court accuse seven Limedale youths aged 17 to 20 of assault and battery after mud was thrown at Mr. and Mrs. McDonald during a ride near Limedale last Monday. Names include Horace Farmer Douglas Alexander Robert Best Roscoe Hibbs Leland Brown Harry Brown and Jennings Sanford. Three arraigned, all deny. no arrests yet. case continued. Attorneys F M Lyon and C Peek represent the defendants.
Mrs Russell Stoner of Farmersburg Indiana died at her father in law Albert Stoner's home five miles southwest of the city near Oakalla. She died this morning at 1230 after several weeks illness from diabetes. Funeral Sunday at 230 pm at the Stoner home near Oakalla conducted by Rev Carnes. Interment Boone cemetery. The Stoners came here weeks ago to visit the farmer's parents Mr and Mrs Albert Stoner.
Putnam County farmers report crop losses of 26 to 33 percent due to overflow from Wednesday's downpour. Losses are confined to bottom land affected by the floodwaters.
Farmers report the Wednesday storm caused 26 to 33 percent damage on bottom lands along creeks and branches in Putnam County. Upland crops suffered little, with most water running off and only delaying plowing in corn. Wheat hay were washed in lowlands. overall damage lower than first feared. Andrew Hanna recounts backing his Ford Lizzie into a ditch after the big rain. A team of mules and about forty convicts helped to recover the vehicle.
Authorities confirmed the body found Friday afternoon is that of a state farm prisoner. The dead man's widow, Mrs. H. A. Knipper of Indianapolis, arrived to claim the body and arrange care.
The body of the State Farm prisoner killed by lightning was identified as H. A. Knipper of Indianapolis by his wife Mrs. Knipper. She traveled with her brother to verify, and burial is set for Forest Hill Cemetery Sunday at 2 p.m. No funeral services will be held. Knipper, 35, was serving 690 days for assault and battery and had been in Terre Haute seeking work.
L A Sherburn thirty died in battle at the Dardanelles. Born Kosciusko county he served as a sergeant in the Australian army after a career in the American navy and Australian imperial guard. News reached Warsaw via a British war office letter dated June twentieth.
While using a corn knife on a farm two miles west of town this morning Jesse Hinton suffered a deep cut to his left hand and a gash to the index finger He was attended by Dr Eugene Hawkins. In town the west division of the Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian church hosted a family evening on the old manse lawn describing a very enjoyable gathering.
