Crawfordsville Ind January 13 Harry Eller graduate manager of athletics at Wabash College today handed his resignation to the athletic committee to take effect at the end of the present school year He has served thirteen years and built the program into a sound financial basis with the Little Giants known in athletic circles. The notice ends with a local barber shop advertisement.
The divorce suit of Robert Lee Petit against Adah Petit was dismissed at the plaintiff’s costs. Willis Gillen and others sue John IF Gillen, absentee heir in Henry Daugherty’s estate, seeking equal division of his share. William Sutherlin vs Roy Tharp et al. dismissed with costs paid. Coroner C T Zaring filed his report on Louis Wilson’s death, attributing it to heart trouble. key testimonies came from George Brisco and Emma Bender. Tullia Haymer vs Charles M Haymer moved to Clay Circuit Court on venue change. Haymer seeks divorce, $500 alimony, custody of three children, and $10 weekly child support. Thomas D Brookshire, administrator of William C Rogers’s estate, seeks sale of land in Franklin township. Martha E Rogers and others defend. Charles McGaughey represents Brookshire.
In the Fifth Congressional District voters show support for the suffrage measure as telegrams report Congress member Moss who backed the bill. Leaders of the Franchise League note increased optimism following Tuesdays vote.
Women’s Franchise League leaders in the Fifth District praise Congressman alph Moss for supporting equal suffrage as the bill fails 204 to 174 in the House. Greenscastle and other towns remain undeterred, claiming this marks serious consideration and predicting success soon. Telegrams of congratulation reach Moss. The G A R Post seeks war department markers for unmarked soldier graves, requesting reports with name, company, regiment and burial place. Mrs N C O Hair and Miss Mabel Stoner visited Indianapolis today.
E Talkington superintendent of state penal institution near Putnamville will travel to Jeffersonville tonight to urge that reformatory prisoners be brought to the farm to assist with work. Meeting of trustees held Wednesday.
Trustees at the Indiana State Farm authorized bringing about twelve additional prisoners to aid winter work. Superintendent Talkington will visit Jeffersonville tonight to arrange transfer of inmates from the Indiana Reformatory to Putnam County. The move aims to finish the dining room and dormitory early next spring, after which hundreds of prisoners may be received from county jails. Only provisions accounts and bids for next four weeks were discussed.
Theodore Hutcheson age 62, a longtime Putnam County farmer, died of heart trouble about five oclock yesterday. He lived seven miles southwest of town and will be buried Friday at Antioch church cemetery after a funeral at 1 PM. He leaves a widow, one daughter Mrs. Charles Windle, five brothers, three sisters, and three grandchildren.
The Terre Haute Indianapolis Eastern Traction Co seeks a rate adjustment rather than a fare increase before the public utilities commission. Under the proposal the Greencastle to Indianapolis fare would drop to 78 cents, with a uniform 2 cents per mile applied to all stops, potentially raising some small-stop fares and lowering others.
Poet and DePauw graduate Max Ehrmann plans a March release for Jesus, a Passion Play, a rationalistic interpretation omitting supernatural elements. The work features fifty two characters and five acts, contrasting prior compact dramas.
