Ula Monday and Oscar Mi Lerre charged with assault and mistreatment of an 18 year old girl. Trial of cases set for Friday in the Putnam Circuit Court.
Ula Monday a married man and Oscar Miller an unmarried man about 50 were arrested in Cloverdale on a charge of assault and battery. A warrant was filed for John Taylor who left the town. The men allegedly enticed a girl into their homes while his wife was away. Miller allegedly assaulted the mother during her illness. Arraigned before Judge J. P. Hughes they pled not guilty and set Friday for trial. The Cline girl is described as feeble minded.
The Netherlands will not surrender former Emperor William but will promise to guard him closely. The reply to the entente’s second vote on his status will reaffirm the original stance and be dispatched within a few days from The Hague on February 17.
Chauny France expects reopening of the historic mirror factory once run by Jean Baptiste Colbert and employing about 2000 workers before the war. A chemical plant is being rebuilt nearby as reconstruction proceeds under special government plans.
The Terre Haute Indianapolis and Eastern Traction Co filed with the Public Service Commission to raise express article rates from 25 cents to 40 cents and interline charges from 35 cents to 50 cents for articles rated above first class. A hearing is set for Monday March 1.
Fannie E. Cope 28 of Putnam County and Clarence Smithers 30 of Summerset Kentucky obtain a license. Ada Campbell 22 of Terre Haute and Phillip Pfeifer 27 of Terre Haute also listed for a marriage license.

Citizens deposited unstamped banknotes as a forced loan under a government stamp scheme. Receipts were issued and later redeemed with stamps, the withheld portion serving as the loan. The operation mobilized the republic’s population and, once stamped, allowed the army to resume normal duties and borders to reopen.

The Indiana Society of Tucson was formed on February 12 with thirty four charter members. Dr. R B Von Klein Smid of the University of Arizona was unanimously elected chairman, C N Wilson vice president and John W Walker secretary. He noted Indiana ties and that leaders from Indiana politics exist. Incorporation matters were left to a committee.
Mrs. John Branham aged 79 died at her Limedale area home near 1 oclock Tuesday after a brief paralysis illness. She leaves husband John Branham of Limedale and six children: Miss William Braney of Indianapolis, Mrs Ed Sebree of Terre Haute, Berry Branham of Indianapolis, Homer Branham and Albert Branham of this city. Funeral plans not yet announced.
Word arrives that Robert Bell, a DePauw University student, who broke his leg in an interfraternity basketball game and was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, is recovering well.
The body of Mrs. Mike Neelan, who died at her Indianapolis home, arrived by noon train on the Vandalia and was taken to Forest Hill cemetery for burial. Mrs Neelan was formerly a resident of this city.
Two Indiana girls Blanch Knox and Helen G Jones cable from Terre Haute and Greencastle urging Indiana residents to support Near East Relief for Armenian orphans. They describe dire conditions in Armenia with malnutrition, overcrowded orphanages, and open begging, asking for generous aid from America.
The Purdue Glee Club performs Friday February 20 in McHarry Hall under DePauw Glee Club auspices. Purdue Club members will be entertained in Bowman gymnasium Tollowns the concert. Chaperones Prof and Mrs Howard J Barnum and Dean and Mrs R G McCutchan. The DePauw string quartet performs Tuesday February 24 with H J Barnum Warren F Cook Cecil Smith and Harold Jones. Helen Wood Barnum and VanDenman Thompson assist. Revival services begin tonight at 7 in McHarry hall led by D D O W Fifer pastor of Central Avenue Methodist Indianapolis with further services Wednesday and Thursday evenings each one hour.

A rapid reconstruction transformed imperial bank notes into Czecho-Slovak currency in one week. Borders closed and thousands stamped notes, with 8,000,000,000 crowns converted. Public notices urged presenting notes for stamping and outside exchange was halted.

The note criticizes the Dutch reply for not condemning Kaiser crimes and warns of moral responsibility for aiding a fugitive and propagandizing Europe.

Mr and Mrs Emory O'Hair of South Dakota visit relatives here. East sewing circle met with Mrs Glen Jones last Wednesday afternoon. Mt. Pleasant Sewing Circle met with Mrs Lilly Busby. Indianapolis hog receipts reached eight thousand with steady cattle calves and sheep. Light hogs sold around 15.50 with top at 15.83. heaviest hogs 14.00 to 15.00 amid 25 to 50 cent declines. Local buyers purchased 7,500 hogs. 1,000 carried over from Monday.
Dr. A. E. Ayler accompanies the DePauw team to South Bend for a Monday evening game and a planned afternoon follow up. The squad will then travel to Michigan to face the Aggies with Ayler expected to return by Wednesday afternoon or night.
