Foreman Struck in Quarry Attack Near Indianapolis

John Kelly a 50 year old foreman at the Indiana and Ohio Quarries near Indianapolis was found fatally injured Friday night after four blows to the head with a pick. He was unconscious since the attack and in critical condition as officers began an investigation with Sheriff Bees and City Marshal Cooper. Kelly had moved from Middletown Ohio to the same company and had been at the quarry two months. Frank Henderson the night watchman found him beside the tracks and alerted help.

Assault at the stone mill injures Kelly in Marion county

A man attacked Kelly from behind at a stone mill hiding behind a post. Kelly sustained head wounds and a bruised arm, with a pick handle found at the scene. Sheriff Bees and Marshal Cooper investigated. money and a gold watch remained undisturbed. Also noted: a marriage at the county clerk's office and upcoming Epworth League student meetings led by Wilbur F. Sheridan.

A second Mass Meeting of Greencastle residents discusses the penal farm situation. P M Lyon reports a landowner who had slowed negotiations agreed to reduce his land price by five dollars per acre, with Andy Black cutting the price by 1825 dollars.

Greencastle Penal Farm Land Price Cut Boosts Prospect

Andrew Black agreed to reduce his land price to 21900 dollars for the Indiana Penal Farm site near Greencastle, cutting 1825 dollars from the option. Committee raises $3000 in hours for penal farm shortfall

A committee appointed Friday night to solicit funds to cover the difference between state appropriations for a penal farm and landowner prices has achieved great success, raising three thousand dollars in a few hours.

Night prowler frightened away from Franklin street property

A night prowler was seen at the Eitel greenhouse and near the Dunnington home on Franklin street Friday night about 10 o’clock. Jacob Eitel frightened him away after spotting the intruder. Eitel could not provide a description. The man fled east of Franklin to College Avenue then north. Eitel returned to his office to relight the stove.

A Big Four agent announced the west bound No. 41 passenger train will stop at Greencastle starting tomorrow. The train, due Sunday at 2 01 p m, previously did not stop in Greencastle.

Death of Mrs Samantha Lewis in Indianapolis

Mrs Samantha Lewis age 79 formerly of this city died in Indianapolis on Friday. Her body was brought home to the care of Miss Sue Terry a niece. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 30. Burial followed at Forest Hill cemetery. Charles Mecum of Frankfort remains critically ill and Otto Mecum of this city returned home Friday night after being called to Frankfort for his father’s illness.
