School youth confesses in murder case

Sheridan Michigan December 10 16 year old Jim Deacons confessed to state police he attacked and killed Miss Flossie Carter 27-year-old teacher after being invited to ride in her automobile The slaying occurred last Friday on a country road near Sheridan Deacons described striking her with a fist then killing her with a stone and dumping the body in a creek before driving off the vehicle to a nearby road.

Water hearing set for Friday in Greencastle case

A federal court in Indianapolis will hear the Greencastle Water Co appeal over PSC rate rulings starting Friday. City and Chamber oppose Greencastle express line petition

The City of Greencastle and local Chamber of Commerce plan to oppose Old Trails Express Company petition to run a through line on the National Road via Greencastle. They argue current freight and express facilities are adequate and a through route would worsen highway congestion and danger. Vagrancy Term Ends Indicted on Mann Act

Marvin Richards, released yesterday from the Indiana state farm at Putnamville after a sixty day vagrancy term, was ordered returned to Louisville to face Mann Act charges. DOJ agents testified he took 14 and 17 year old girls from Cloverport, Ky to Evansville, where he was arrested on vagrancy. He was later indicted by the Western Kentucky district federal grand jury. Richards denied the charges, saying he gave the girls a lift while hitchhiking.

Kiwanis Club Hosts Horticulture Society Luncheon

The Kiwanis Club will entertain the Putnam County Horticultural Society at a Thursday noon luncheon as part of the society's all day program. Mrs. Mary Miley Black Dies in Hammond

The death of Mrs. Mary Miley Black wife of Harry Black occurred at Hammond Monday and the body was brought to Greencastle Tuesday. She had suffered tuberculosis for a year and relatives think it caused her death. The couple formerly lived in Greencastle. She leaves two children, her husband, several brothers, and Mr. Black is the son of Charles and Mrs. Black.

Nichols murder trial delayed to January fourteenth

In Danville Indiana the Hendricks circuit court postponed William Nichols murder trial to January 14 due to influenza illness of prosecutor George K Reibold. Nichols 59 is charged with killing Ora Whitten 67 near Stilesville on September 23 after a family dispute over a father’s support. A self defense plea will be presented. the widow, sister of Nichols, testified.
