The shooting of 16 year old Claude Smith alias Steinnett by Federal Prohibition Agent Charles Liebert during a raid on Frances Lowman’s farm near Hardinsburg Indiana on August 10 was ruled accidental. Prosecutor Thomas P Masterson said officers did an excellent job despite the wounding. Liebert was exonerated by Indiana authorities and Smith, who lost a left arm, is improving in a local hospital.
Death announced from Mississippi for J E Hall who died Sunday morning after a period of declining health. He visited Illinois and Missouri this summer to see his sisters T B Mitchell J C Carlyle O B Wilson D B Johnson and Lou E Hillis. Nieces include Mrs Florence Watson and Mrs George Knauer. Many friends grieve his passing.
Herbert Hoover, speaking in West Branch Iowa, vows to protect the American family and home if elected. He frames the family as the unit of life, pledging service to 25 000 000 families in 28 000 000 homes and cites his own rise from modest beginnings to justify opportunity for children in America.
Robert Lee Wright aged 33 a steam shovel engineer at the Ohio and Indiana stone quarry died in the County Hospital after a two week illness and an appendectomy. He resided with his mother near Fern in Madison township and is survived by three sisters and three brothers plus seven nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at his home Thursday at 2 pm with interment in Long Branch cemetery.
In Crawfordsville Indiana on August 21 farmers near Jamestown formed the first Al Smith Hay Ring Club in this area. Ben Clark was elected president and Bert Kernodle assigned to notify Governor Smith of the new organization.
Addi bell, 28, and Cleveland Hutchinson, 38, both African American, had just been released from a penal farm after a six month sentence for beating bell’s wife. Hutchinson allegedly battered a door and fired two shotgun blasts into his wife at her Hopkinsville, Kentucky home and is still at large.

In Greencastle 20 years ago Charles Kelly purchased the old Bassett residence on Anderson Street from H. B. Longden. Mrs. Fred Cunningham and daughters Ruth and Iva leave for Indianapolis, L. Alspaugh and family and George Ensign with friends camp at Eel River, Will Brumley and his wife visit the Nixons at Cloverdale.
Two men and a woman abducted and robbed David Chetwood at Bloomington filling station. A pursuit led to a gun battle east of Bedford injuring Patrolman Cecil Brock and bandit Bob Skerd. Inez Ballard captured. third suspect at large. Car stolen from Bloomington found abandoned.
A bomb wrecked the Italian consulate in Liege injuring one man. Authorities believed Italian refugees protesting against the Fascisti were responsible for the attack.
Indiana Elks close their 27th annual reunion in Gary with over 3000 expected in tomorrow's parade. John F. Holliday of Washington was chosen president after serving as vice-president, as New Albany favored to host the 1929 session over Terre Haute.

Plainfield Lions vote to petition the public service commission for a watchman or warning signs at the traction crossing west of Plainfield after an accident killed two children. The five fatalities this year were all outsiders to the community, highlighting danger for travelers on the National road.
Five year old Lloyd Munsey was seriously injured by a maddened sow while playing in an orchard on John H. Smith Pottersville farm, six miles southwest of Spencer Indiana. His brother Paul, nine, chased the animal away with a club, saving him. Lloyd suffered fractures in his left forearm and right collarbone, plus other injuries. The family includes Lloyd's parents Mr and Mrs C P Munsey and Mrs Munsey's father John Atkerson, caretakers of the Smith farm.
The Greencastle Band wraps its summer series with a Thursday 8 p.m. concert led by director Norman Beeson now in Westfield. The program, a tenth and final of the season, features a mix of marches overtures operatic selections and a cornet solo by Paul Wright Jr. from The Bohemian Girl and Cinderella Overture among others.
Albany hosts a large Democratic gathering with 10 000 attendees from four corners, inviting guests to the Court House Assembly Room at 5 PM for notification ceremonies. Ott Webb installs radio gear, with Governor Smith slated to speak around 5 31 PM as a radio hookup expands to over ninety stations.
