Frankfort Indiana grounds will unveil a newly built 65 000 dollar municipal swimming pool tomorrow. The facility measures 100 feet by 200 feet, with depths from 15 inches to 10 feet and a bath house that can serve about two thousand swimmers per hour. The pool uses a filtering system designed to keep water continuously pure.
In Indianapolis a driver believed to be George N. Arvanitis died from injuries after a traction car struck his car at 24th Street and Northwestern Avenue. Motorman Lee Neese escaped unharmed as firefighters extinguished a blaze from the wreck. Arvanitis was pulled from the burning vehicle.
A hidden automatic pistol with five cartridges exploded between a mattress and bed clothing at the Delta U house near Seminary and Arlington. Morris McAvoy, asleep on the bed, escaped smoke as firefighters and Chief John Goddard determined spontaneous combustion from grease likely caused the blast with damage limited to bedding and the gun.
Nelson Reeves of Green Castle township died at his Mount Pleasant area home Thursday morning at 6 30 following a six day illness. He lived in Putnam County all his life and was a farmer. He leaves a widow and five children Effie Melvin Russell Mrs Edward Reynolds and Ernest Day. Funeral services set for Saturday at 2 30 pm at Mt Pleasant church with burial in Mt Pleasant cemetery.
H B Walls manager of Green Castle Telephone Company Dorothea Walls and Ethel Hall attended the Western Central Telephone Association gathering at the Home Lawn Hotel in Martinsville. About 150 people participated with separate sessions for managers and workers. C A Bruce and E R Moore of Bell Telephone spoke on telephone problems. Martinsville Exchange employees demonstrated toll call etiquette followed by a movie on trans Atlantic calls and a late afternoon visit to the Martinsville Fish Hatchery.
In Pennsylvanias Coalport area the number 3 Irvana Coal and Coke mine blast killed thirteen workers. Fifteen others were injured or missing as 152 escaped death amid a gas explosion three miles from the mine mouth. Only one worker survived the near-total toll.
Approximately 100 passengers aboard the Pacific mail steamer Ecuador were stranded on rocks near Cape San Lazaro lower California awaiting rescue by the fruit ship San Mateo. Captain Oaks said there is no immediate danger as dawn broke with the Ecuador resting in a calm sea about 200 miles south of the rescuers. The Ecuador, 10 000 tons, was en route from San Francisco to New York with first class and steerage passengers.
Mrs. Maude R. Douglas, 48, of Peru, suffered severe burns when a kerosene can exploded as she poured fuel on a fire early today. Dr. F. M. Lynn said there is no chance of recovery and that her entire body is burned.
Indianapolis August 16 police searched for a young gunman who robbed Howard C. Jackson 33 a Standard Grocery Company collector at gunpoint of his car and about 1000 in receipts. This was Jacksons second major robbery in two years.
In Greenfield Indiana on August 16 a farmer J K P Martindale reported a heat hatch tale. He found an unattended nest with twelve eggs and, after covering it with a sack, discovered five hatched chicks and three pipped eyes as the sun completed the process.
Major Carlo Del Prete, Italian trans Atlantic flyer, died at 5:55 AM in Rio de Janeiro after right leg amputation yesterday. He and Major Arturo Ferrarin were injured in the Savoia seaplane crash en route from Rome to the Brazilian coast. Del Prete was among Italy’s top airmen.
J C Barnett an aged man wandering east of Greencastle was brought to the County Jail by Sheriff Edward Eitelforge after his erratic behavior alarmed residents. He has previously been found on the Jesse Sears farm and taken to a daughter in Morgan county. He is held pending word from relatives.
The annual beekeepers meeting with dinner is set for Saturday August 25 at Robert A. Ogg's orchard just east of Greencastle. C. O. Yost the State Inspector will attend. The session begins at 12:30.
Mrs. Fred Goodwine hosted a slumber party for her sister Mrs. Willie Hightower of Louisiana. Harry Collins plans a Roachdale visit tomorrow. Dave Hostetter arrived from his north Putnam county home today, Blanche Osborne of Reelsville visited friends here today.
Sheriff confiscates two five gallon jugs of liquor after a Friday afternoon collision on the National Road east of Mt. Meridian. A Buick driven by Martin Strenk of Indianapolis sideswiped an Essex sedan driven by F E Goodwin of Peoria and rolled. The Buick was demolished and two five gallon jugs remained. Goodwin and a companion escaped unharmed as the Buick driver fled the scene before being captured.
A steam shovel used for excavating a new Methodist Church site was loaded onto a big truck and driven toward Indianapolis on a Wednesday night. The whistle was torn off near Locust street as the truck passed Mrs Blanche O Hair’s home causing a loud shrill sound until workers repaired it. The crew said the shovel would need to be unloaded three times to clear bridges on the route to Indianapolis.
Mostly fair tonight with slight warmth in the far south. Friday: partly cloudy with possible showers in the north, cooler in the extreme northwest and warmer in the far south.
State bank officials announced the closing of Peoples Deposit Bank of Brooklyn Morgan county. K V Brownell, the bank examiner, closed the private institution after it had been operating at a loss. Assets reportedly sufficient to pay depositors. owners listed as Mrs Emma Gibbs Mooresville Samuel Swope president H R Nevins vice president and E W Harper cashier.
Fred McMurray manager of the Stout Furniture Company at Brazil suffered a serious facial and arm cut and Herbert Cain of Commercial Place sustained a shoulder gash and minor facial cuts after a collision between the Cain and McMurray cars on the Manhattan Road near Roscoe Zaring's home. The accident happened on a curve when radiator water boiled over and obscured the windshield. Both vehicles were badly damaged and both men received medical attention. McMurray returned home to Brazil later that evening.
Miss Elizabeth Tilden, daughter of Prof. and Mrs. Francis Tilden, wins a scholarship at Ohio Wesleyan University Delaware Ohio for teaching and study next year. Arnold Tilden, son, receives the Beveridge Research scholarship from DePauw for history research. he will study at the University of Chicago next year pursuing a Doctorate after earning a master's degree at DePauw last June.
Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley counted Dr Edwin B. Howard among his boyhood friends. Howard, 79, long time Greenfield dentist, died today after a life spanning more than six decades in the community. The two swam together at the old swimming hole in their youth.
Greencastle Gas and Electric workers labored since about 4 p.m. Wednesday to clear clogged mains on Washington street in front of Gray Potter’s home. Steam and water pressure were used with the city steamer. East Washington Street residents faced gas outages due to the main connection to Northwood.

Two boys sleeping in the second floor bowling alley of the Harvey's Lake casino were burned to death when a fire swept through the summer resort building. Authorities had not yet established their identities.
