The Cloverdale High School commencement exercises were held Thursday in the school auditorium for the largest 1929 class yet. Superintendent W. O. Schanlaub gave the address, with Principal E. P. Lowery introducing him. Diplomas were awarded by County Superintendent J. C. Vermillion, after prizes were handed out by Lowery.
Charles E. Green of Coatesville a former Terre Haute Indianapolis and Eastern traction employee seeks 50000 in a suit against the company in Putnam Circuit Court. He alleges a crow bar fell from a car east of Bridgeport injuring him and causing permanent injuries due to unsafe equipment and track conditions. He was hospitalized 26 days and later confined at home. he cannot work. Attorneys John O. Piety George W. Wells and Hays Murphy represent him.
Genevieve Daggy sues Walter Hodson and Blaire Hodson for 50 damages. She says on June 27, 1928, in Greencastle on Spring avenue, Blaire Hodson driving a car owned by Walter Hodson, attempted to park and struck Daggy’s vehicle. She claims defective brakes and Blaire Hodson's negligence caused the damage.
The Presbyterian church will devote Sunday evening to an hour of worship with pictures. Herman N. Morse prepared the lecture titled Landmarks and Corner Stones detailing how National Missions and church agencies contributed to U S development. Sunday at 10:35 the Spring Communion service observes membership reception.
Indianapolis report says George Lewis 26 was fatally shot during hijacking attempt near Morton Putnam County. Three men were arrested with three women released. a gray Mormon car tied to the crime was seized and whisky confiscated. Police recount a call to a city hospital reporting a wounded man and McHenry’s confession naming "Babe" and others. Local witness Mrs Neal saw two cars exchange fire near Clinton Falls.
Addie Pelfrey and Vina Marie Miller, both of Reelsville, filed for a marriage license. Pelfrey is 24, a paper maker. Miller is 22, at home. Addie is son of Autie Pelfrey and the Miller is daughter of Harley Miller and Mrs. De King. Geneva NL April 26. Deputy Sheriff Roy Smith cleared of blame in the De King raid death. grand jury indicted perjurer Eugene Boyd Fairchild. Dr A Evan Ayler moved to hospital after heart attack.
The forecast calls for generally fair conditions tonight and Saturday. A slight warming is expected and light frost is possible in the north and central portions tonight.
Pennsylvania railroad changes take effect Sunday to align with daylight saving time. The Spirit of St. Louis clocking a one hour faster run both ways now takes 24 hours between St. Louis and New York. The Liberty Limited between Chicago and Washington also gains its fastest schedule yet.
James N Halstead age 75 a pioneer lumber and planing mill operator of Brazil died suddenly. Born in England he came to America at age six. He helped found the local interurban line and Brazil and Greencastle electric light plants. Survived by wife four sons and three daughters. Funeral services were held at his Brazil home with interment at Cottage Hill cemetery.
Prof Truman G Yuncker of Green Castle was named grand chaplain at the closing session of the Indiana Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at the Murat Temple in Indianapolis. About five hundred of the 1248 attendees were expected to visit the Masonic Home at Franklin today. Yuncker has served on the finance and jurisprudence committees of the state organization.
Walter Campbell gave a supper at the Fillmore Christian church for many Fillmore men. The table overflowed with food and after the meal forty minutes of agricultural life film were shown followed by speeches that educated attendees.

Harlan R. Denton 38 state representative from Owen and Putnam counties breaks his right leg when struck by a car driven by Alex Falk former Owen county sheriff while crossing State Road 67 in front of his home. He clung to the radiator cap during 30 feet being carried, reducing potential injuries. Denton is a well known local figure after his campaign. Mrs. Claire Bundy wife of Prof. Walter Bundy plans overseas trip sailing May 29 on S S America. Bundy native of Basil Switzerland. Mrs. Bundy has passport filed. Mrs. Sarah Montgomery of Indianapolis visits sister Mrs DePauw. Charles Marshall and Mr. Marshall east Walnut street.
President Hoover sees Senate support growing for the Haugen 500 million cooperative marketing bill while the House passed the measure, signaling administration strength. The farm relief fight centers on thwarted equalization fee and export debenture plans as Hoover presses for Senate action next week.
In Goshen Indiana on April 25 Walter A Huffman former state representative convicted of issuing a fraudulent check faces a postponed sentencing now set for next Tuesday. Huffman attorney R E Proctor requested the delay due to being out of county with other business. Louis B Ewbank of Indianapolis discussed the case with Proctor and Huffman.
An unconfirmed report cites 30 dead at Statesboro Georgia as a large tornado swept through South Carolina and Georgia. Across both states the toll neared eighty with about 250 injured and over a million dollars in property damage. Roads and lines were down and towns such as Cochran Spartansburg and Rentz faced major destruction.

The Donaldson Company plans a $185 000 four story steel hotel on Vine and Walnut in Greencastle replacing the Tucker property. Ground broken this year with completion targeted for 1929 and a prominent operator reportedly to take a two year lease.
Mrs Laura Layman 74 wife of James Layman died at her Madison township home Friday at 11 50 am after a stroke she suffered Wednesday. Born in Shelby county she was formerly Miss Laura Gordon. She and James Layman moved through Greencastle and Washington townships before settling 42 years ago. Survived by husband two sons John and Charles eight grandchildren four sisters and two brothers. Funeral plans have not been announced.
