The war department announces the big ship Leviathan will land Friday after a lengthy voyage. Two or three days in camp are planned for health inspection following arrival. The accompanying artillery force Pride of Indiana is now mid ocean awaiting further orders.
About 10,000 troops sail aboard the Leviathan including 1,785 men of Indiana's 150th Field Artillery under Col. Robert H. Tyndall. The ship departs Brest and is due in New York Friday, with camps Merritt or Mills to receive the regiment for two to three days of disinfection before further movement.
Camp Sherman Ohio troops to be mustered out after a shift from Camp Taylor Kentucky. Parade in Indianapolis uncertain and timing of boat arrival unclear. Returning men to be segregated for health checks at port of debarkation with Hoboken pier expected Friday. Mail to Tyndall regiment to use standard address with division and AEF. letters held in New York for delivery on camp arrival.
A Chicago Liberty Loan conference speech extols the fifth loan as the best, arguing it funds saving lives and completes the victory won by 2,000,000 soldiers overseas. The speaker says Americans must match their soldiers, pledging silver and gold to honor those who paid the price.
Indiana counties exceed campaign targets with strong local participation. Officials expect rapid progress across 13 counties in ten days as the Victory Loan effort gains momentum and public support grows.
Reports from Indiana counties indicate the Victory Loan campaign will meet its statewide quota within ten days, with eleven central and northern counties exceeding targets on the first day and total state subscriptions reaching 6.697 million of 81.563 million. County results include Steuben Morgan Huntington Union Wells Bartholomew Fayette Henry Clinton Ripley Brown. Jackson and Switzerland counties also surpassed quotas.
Indianapolis April 22 The 1919 W S S campaign will not interfere with the Victory Liberty Loan drive says Postmaster Robert E Springsteen director of the Indiana War Savings Committee after a Washington conference. The W S S campaign aims to secure steady sale of stamps and certificates and to promote thrift.
The Savings campaign will boost the Victory Loan by expanding wise spending saving and safe investment. Mr. Springsteen says the state committee reorganization is near completion with every postmaster and school official joining. A new division will organize War Savings societies and a women’s division is planned.

County Chairman Hurst receives eight headgears prepared by German officers for distribution among soldiers who planned to enter Paris. The note highlights wartime gear and honors tied to labor and military plans during the campaign.
Eight German helmets intended for a Paris triumphal entry have arrived to be distributed among Liberty Loan workers, with fifty medals for Putnam county workers also shipped. Distribution method is undecided. Helmets are on display at A. Cook drug store. Women workers will receive tokens later from the government.
The Elks hosted a pleasant dance at their hall on Monday evening drawing many Elks and their families to attend the event.
The board of school trustees accepted the resignation of Prof Courson from the position of head of the high school at a special Monday meeting. The record notes his successful work and the decision is recorded for the school district archives.
Prof Will H Courson who came to Greencastle from Anderson last fall to lead Greencastle high school has resigned. The board accepted his resignation at a special meeting noting budget pressures and a plan to run without an assistant principal next year. Courson led improvements in academics and athletics and coached the G H S basketball team to a successful season.
Clay and Putnam counties held a joint session to receive bids for the Stalin county line road but no bids were submitted. Contractors said the estimate was too low and must be raised before bids could be reissued.
High school notes report a Dramatic Club program featuring Mildred Wells Florence Stringer Elva Ayler Florence McGaughey and Robert Johns with Monday meeting plans. A film program tomorrow and a Green Cast le Parent Teachers Club show Saturday with Jack and Jill and The Great Love are announced. Principal William Courson praises Rev Don Nichols chapel talk and county track prospects at G H S.

Fred Long spent Sunday with Charles Torr. Walter Torr hosted about twenty five friends for Mrs. Everett Torr’s 87th birthday. Edward Torr stayed with Clifford Torr Wednesday night. Jack Rogers of Vandalia Indiana visited Florence Brown Sunday.
C C Hurst of the State Council of Defense received a letter from the state chairman with information about a celebration for soldier boys to be held in Indianapolis.
Not for rainbows the letter from M C Foley state chairman to C C Hurst urges appointing a county committee to represent the county at the Welcome Home Celebration in Indianapolis. The letter emphasizes honoring all men who served and asks counties to inform and bring all discharged men home to participate in the parade.
The Putnam county high school track meet will be held on McKeen Field Saturday afternoon at 2 30. Four schools Roachdale Bainbridge Greencastle and Cloverdale will represent the event. Captains Edward Wright and Leroy Bee lead the two sections of the local team. Admission is 25 cents at the gate.
