Terre Haute Firm Wins U S Highway 36 Paving Bid

Foulks Contracting Company of Terre Haute received the contract to pave 9.1 miles on U S Highway 36 from Hollandabarge to the junction with road 43 in Parke and Putnam counties for 1818.51. Another bid for 6.8 miles from Rockville to Hollandsburg was 221957.49. The 1951 letting covers 45 miles of paving and 5 miles of grading totaling 1019648.16 with 51 contractors bidding.

Jerry P Miller Dies at Home in Roachdale

Jerry F P Miller 78, prominent Putnam County farmer, died at his Roachdale home Tuesday morning from heart disease after a year long illness. Born September 13, 1852, he married Carl Utterback in 1881. Survived by granddaughter Evelyn Sutherlin and brother John W Miller. Funeral at Roachdale Christian church with burial in Roachdale cemetery.

Carpentersville Man Called To Rest At Home

Bob Dawson of Carpentersville was found dead in bed Saturday morning in Roachdale after being in his usual health Friday evening. Township assessor Mr Robbins entered the home when there was no response and found Dawson deceased. Funeral services will be held Tuesday.

Cement Plant Opens at Limedale Today

Lone Star Cement plant at Limedale opened this morning with most departments in operation and full start expected by Friday. Nearly all workers laid off last fall are slated to return this spring, though a few have secured permanent work elsewhere.

Laura El Mirt widow of Alfred Hirt seeks a one third share of a 150000 estate instead of the 7000 and 1000 provided by a prenuptial agreement and will. The case, pending since June 24 1929, was moved from Putnam to Montgomery County to avoid alleged local influence.

Penitentiary Move After Penal Farm Escape

Raymond Cox, 81, of Indianapolis, was sent to Michigan City to begin a 1 to 5 year sentence for escaping from the Indiana State Farm at Putnamville. Cox was transferred from Marion County Court after a Putnam circuit court sentence by Judge James P. Hughes. Indianapolis authorities said his apprehension helped clear up several recent Marion County crimes.

Crash damages autos at Crawfordsville intersection

A collision at the south edge of Crawfordsville on Tuesday morning damaged a car driven by John Dills and a truck driven by J M Billings ley. Dills traveled north and Billingsley east at the intersection of state roads 43 and 47 causing considerable front end damage.

Walter Heath Leaves for Oklahoma Today

Walter Jleath contractor who won the Bartletsville post office and courthouse project left this morning for Bartletsville. He travels by steamer with Lawrence Crawley Greencastle carpenter foreman for the two jobs. Two large trucks and other equipment started toward Oklahoma City.

Death claims Cloverdale woman Charlotte O Mullane

Mrs. Charlotte Temple O Mullane of Cloverdale died today after a long illness at her home. Born 1850 in Owen County, she married John O Mullane in 1869 and had ten children. Surviving are three sons, three daughters, fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Funeral at Cloverdale Methodist Church Friday with Rev. Doris Denny. Burial in Cloverdale Cemetery.

Judgment Granted In Grindler v Church Over Architects Fee

Alfred Grindler an Indianapolis architect and the Bevington Williams Company won a judgment against the Greencastle Methodist Church in the Putnam circuit court. The case sought about 2000 dollars in unpaid fees for designing two buildings including a proposed religious education unit, plans of which were abandoned. Grindler claimed a fee of 8789.91 dollars with 7000 paid. three percent of the total remained due since February 1929.

Two Greencastle high school basketball squads meet in an exhibition at 7 30 Friday night on the Greencastle floor. Proceeds fund a spring athletic program. Prom the files of TMANERALD reports that five men including eo P Hughes Ben Curtis Fd McG Walls Charles Huffman and E E Caldwell became Shriners at initiation ceremonies last night at the Murat Temple in Indianapolis. Also noted Frank Farmer bought the 42 acre farm of John W Robe southeast of town at 57.50 per acre and a fire damaged the roof of the old Sage hotel near the Monon station this afternoon.

Loving Cup To Be Given Cage Player

Henry Hank Stone of Greencastle, star forward and captain, will receive a silver roving cup as the outstanding player on the Greencastle basketball team. The Phi Delta Kappa fraternity plans an annual award named the Phi Delta Kappa cup for a graduating squad member. the ceremony, at the Grand Hotel, will feature Congressman K C Gillen and Mayor W L Denman. Twenty five fraternity members have already reserved for the banquet as the cup is engraved with the winner and fraternity names.

Beemer Havens Re elected Chamber Chief At Directors Meeting

Beemer Havens was re elected president of the Chamber of Commerce at a Thursday noon directors meeting. The past year was successful under his leadership. Otis Gardner was named vice president and Charles McGaughey secretary. Helen Black became assistant secretary and Gray Potter treasurer. Committees for the year will be announced soon by the president.

Kansas City April 1 A Transcontinental & Western Air plane carrying Knute Rockne Notre Dame coach and six others crashed near Bazaar Kansas.
