Mrs Corena Holbert a well known colored resident died at her Howard street home Tuesday night at 1130 from stomach cancer after months of suffering. She is survived by husband Samuel Holbert and son Fred O Mitchell of Chicago. Funeral at Bethel AME Church Friday at 2 pm conducted by Rev C P Smith with interment in Forest Hill cemetery. Also Miss Bessie Williams Greencastle Telephone chief operator confined to Commercial Hotel due to illness.

Vance Hoskins a second hand dealer traced stolen property and identified his 18 year old son William in City Prison on loitering charges. The elder Hoskins aided police by checking pawn shops and recovering seven revolvers razors tools and jewelry valued at 300. A gun pawned locally was traced to a buyer who paid 2 to recover the property.
The Greencastle township district No. 2 closed Tuesday afternoon as patrons surprised teachers Mrs. Ola B. Scott and the pupils with baskets and a bountiful dinner in the school room. Pupils gave speeches and dialogues, an old fashioned spelling match crowned Miss Olive Boswell champion and Miss Mabel Hampton second. several pupils received books for prompt attendance.
The contract for 20 car loads of stone to be used on county roads was awarded to A. B. Meyer & Co. by the board of county commissioners yesterday. Contractors' Supply Co led by Albert F. Zaring secured 45 cars, while Meyer did not bid for that portion. The total value of the two contracts remains in dispute.
The Indianapolis Star notes the owner A. B. Meyer & Co. operates the A. & C. Stone quarries and will supply fill stone for the contract from the Greencastle quarry, valued around $15,000.
Interments listed for Forest Hill cemetery in March include George A. Lairson 22 from Terre Haute tuberculosis and James M. Turner 57 from Grand Chains liver disease.
