Mothers and teachers in Grand Rapids discuss adopting a school savings system to teach thrift and business methods. Since 1894 the program has grown to 6362 accounts with $13,123.13 in deposits, plus stamps totaling $2,497.05, supported by bank supplies and a weekly process of stamp sales and folder credits.
Miss Mary Hemrick and Clarence Gardner were driving five miles west of town when a passing buggy caused Gardner to speed up. The horse kicked and overturned the buggy, injuring Hemrick and wrecking the vehicle beyond repair. Gardner escaped with scratches. the horse ran off several miles before capture. The incident was followed by unrelated Civil War pie quips from the Globe Democrat.
The Greencastle High School commencement filled Meharry hall with attendees from nearby towns and distant cities. Twenty two graduates received diplomas as Bliss Billings spoke as valedictorian and Prof Ogg concluded eleven years as superintendent.
