Dawes Opens Budget Hotel For Women In Chicago
On February 17 Charles G Dawes of Chicago opened a women’s hotel in a busy west side district. The stone brick building costs 150000 dollars and houses 260 guest rooms with rates from 10 to 30 cents daily on the European plan. Meals cost 5 to 6 cents and laundry is 5 cents hourly. Dawes honors his mother Mary Gates Dawes and his son Rufus with this philanthropic project and a portrait by Ralph Clarkson is noted. Naval authorities in Washington report Japan producing two guns and two shells for itself for every one produced for its allies.
