Rising alfalfa prices boost southern demand and Colorado supply
Demand from New Orleans and southern cotton farms for alfalfa meal strengthens prices even as Colorado output tightens. Alfalfa hay trades at 6.50 to 9.00 per unit, with feeders wary after last year’s losses. Jerome Cook, relocating near Lexington Nebraska, profits by baling 320 acres of alfalfa for Omaha conversion to meal and shipping to the South, securing contracts at 19.50 for best quality and 8.50 for bleached product, further lifting regional prices.
