Final Hudson Bay voyage of the Alert ends in Halifax
The government steamer Alert returned to Halifax after nearly four months in Hudson Bay. Commander Gordon reported thick ice and fog near Nachvak, repairs at Diggs, surveys at Churchill and York Factory, and discoveries including an inner channel through the straits.
