Senator Freeman is expected home from Washington in a few days. Various local items follow including farmers, dances, bridge changes, marriages, and civic notices from Greeley interwoven with rail and agriculture news and upcoming Memorial Day ceremonies.
A crowd gathered on Main Street for a Memorial Day service at the Evans Baptist Church led by Rev. Mr. Cooke and Rev. A C Todd of Evans. The program included hymn singing, prayers, and a sermon by Mr Todd praising the fallen and urging enlistment in the heavenly army. Collecting plates benefited both the Baptist and Covenant churches.
The town prepares for commencement exercises on Thursday evening at Park church with Judge Haynes delivering the salutatory and Miss Billings the valedictory. Music by the Grammar and High School under Miss Crabtree. The botany class led by Mrs Copeland has been active with field excursions.
Special correspondence notes a crowded circus, crops thriving, potato planting finishing, and light chicken pox activity with no new cases. Locals plan irrigation, business changes at the Higley bank, and routine church services as Rev Packard visits.
William Jones sells his stake in hardware and harness to Western Electric Manufacturing Company of Chicago. The firm becomes Lewis & Long and reports strong farm implement sales including five reapers and self binders this season. Real estate transfers listed include several lots in blocks 57 58 and 66 in Greeley and related deeds.
May 28 1884 Cheyenne notes spring revival with new brick and stone blocks under construction. Inter Ocean hotel improvements include fire hoses and stand pipes while Warren Mercantile builds a large quarter block with sidetrack. Property repairs follow a recent fire at Warren block. housing expands with new residences and a three story Idelman block rising near Ferguson and Sixteenth. Also listing: For sale a 3t Mitchell wagon and fiddle horses headed by E R Thayer.
