Storm brings rain boosts Weld county winter wheat prospects

The storm from Friday night to Sunday watered the county from three quarters to twice an inch, lifting dryland wheat hopes. About 30,000 acres planted last fall are averaging 20 bushels per acre, potentially valuing the crop at 360000 to 409060 dollars. Cold spells and late plant losses are concerns, while snow estimates exceed last year and rivers and ditches receive a good soak. Farmers resume field work after a dry spell as mountain snow adds water.
