The Expulsion of Brother John of Hordle
At Beaulieu Abbey a novice named John of Hordle is condemned after a sensational trial. He is stripped of the white garb and banished from the abbey for multiple alleged transgressions including theft of ale, physical assault, and sexual immorality with a maiden, provoking a dramatic clash as he resists and escapes. The Abbot dismisses him to the outside world, while a youth named Alleyne Edrickson prepares to depart with him, torn between duty and family danger.
