Philip W. Goodan died last Thursday at his son John A. Goodan’s residence in Eaton while returning from the Post Office. Born September 6, 1809, he lived a long, healthy life with little medicine. A Kentucky native from Bath County, he spent 49 years there before moving to Missouri and later Colorado with his wife to visit family. He was known for strong moral character and integrity.
Spring wheat in Minnesota looks strong but yields may lag last year while Iowa and Kansas promise large harvests. Nebraska corn and wheat are only average with Indiana and Illinois gloomy in places. Government reports note a 9 percent rise in spring wheat area led by Dakota, with spring wheat at 101 percent condition and winter wheat near 94. Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky see declines, while Indiana and Michigan show higher overall conditions.
