The Chautauqua at Greeley filled the largest tent this side of Kansas City with 800 season tickets sold before opening day and now surpassing 900. Temple Quartet entertained as crowds filled the grounds with camping families and comfort amenities. Manager Ellison praised the program and noted continued growth across nearby towns offering extended assemblies and tents for the season.

Senator LaFollette Escapes Court After Fast Denver Drive
Senator Robert M. LaFollette spoke at the Greeley Chautauqua on Representative Government after a Denver to Greeley dash in a Corbin car. His chauffeur E W Swanboro was arrested for speeding by City Marshal Williams but released with a warning. LaFollette’s 12 year old son Phil accompanied him. The speech lasted over four hours and attacked Wall Street interests and corporate regulation.

Arizona mining man visits Rust after long friendship
O. A. Pease a wealthy Arizona miner travels 1000 miles to visit Ernest Rust in Denver recalling a 26 year old tale. Rust as depot officer at Denver Union Station found Pease’s pocketbook with 10500 dollars after Pease jumped back to the station to search. The grateful Pease returns annually to express thanks and honor the bond.

Local Recital Guests Feted by Snyder Family
Dr and Mrs Snyder hosted a small informal reception at their home last Thursday. Guests of honor included baritone John C. Wilcox who gave a Normal chapel recital, H L Gideon who spoke and performed at the Congregational church, and John Hall of Cincinnati who lectured at the Normal on Friday morning. About fifty faculty members and friends attended after the recital.

Kellog Wins First Pick Prize at Kuner Factory
E. L. Kellog of West Ninth Street wins the first prize offered by Kuner Pickling Company for the first hundred pounds of pickles delivered to the factory. He gathered 124 pounds on July 15, the largest first picking to date. Kellog owns only a half acre of cucumbers.

More Complications In Estate Of Samuel Armstrong Hearing Set
In Weld county the county court will hear August 3 the settlement of the estate of the late Samuel Armstrong. John S. Maddox presents claims by three nephews and nieces alleging heirs own a share. They say gold found by Armstrong in a trunk belonging to their mother after her death constitutes part of the inheritance. The case follows Armstrong's contested divorce from Sarah Armstrong and his later marriage to Mrs. Jemima Maddox, widow of Peter Maddox of Longmont, who had three children when married.

Auto party arrives at S. L. W. ranch on west tour
Traveling with two large Studebaker touring cars Lafayette Lamb and party from Clinton Ind arrived at the S. L. W. ranch Monday morning on their western tour. Ten days earlier worry about their safety arose after they departed for Denver but all members including Mrs. Lamb and Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Worth arrived safely with four chauffeurs. Lamb is one third owner of the S. L. W. ranch.

Trunk Stolen From Eaton Depot Belonging to Lolo
A trunk taken Saturday night from the Eaton depot belonging to a Japanese man named Lolo was found Sunday near the stock yards in a rifled condition. Missing items include a gold watch and chain and a pair of white trousers. no arrests have been made. This is the second trunk theft at the depot in recent weeks.

William McClellan Dies at 92 in Colorado Home
William McClellan aged 92 died Sunday at his son W. R. McClellan’s home at 1022 Eleventh Street. Funeral services are set for 2 30 Tuesday at the McClellan residence with Rev. John Doane officiating. He was a prominent northern Colorado figure and early settler with New England roots. He previously farmed in Illinois, ran a lumber business, and helped supply the Cache la Poudre colony with dairy cows. He was born May 17 1816 in Skowhegan Maine. He had fractured his hip five months ago and remained bedridden.
