Platte Canon Excursion Promises Scenic Fountains Fund Benefit

The Tribune announces a special excursion to Platte canon on Saturday August 3 to support the fountain fund. The trip offers stops at Strontia Springs Dome Rock Ferndale Huttalo Pine Grove Glenmore Lakes Estabrook Lalleys Glenisle and the grand Shale Cassells with forest restfulness and ample fishing and picnicking opportunities. Reading Class Presents Outdoors Scene From As You Like It

Forest of Arden notes Miss Tobey's reading class staged As You Like It on the Normal campus. The outdoor performance used a lawn platform, trees for ambiance, and Chinese lanterns for light. Students acted as Orlando Rosalind Touchstone Adam and others to renew appreciation for the classic play.

Pioneers Fountain Nears Completion With Dedication Planned

The Pioneers fountain in the park is nearly finished aiming to evoke rustic charm though full beauty arrives next year as moss plants and ferns grow around the rocks. A dedication service is set for Tuesday July 30 at 4 PM with potential old band performances and an address by Rev. John Doane. Henry T. West may deliver a pioneer response.

Sugar Plant Prospects Dented by Taft Trade Policy

H J Parrish of Johnstown visited Greeley to hear Chester Morey president of Great Western Sugar discuss the Berthoud independent sugar plant proposal. Morey linked Tafts free trade stance to risky outcomes for sugar trades and warned against further ventures until presidential plans clarified. Rumors accused Berthoud promoter J J Henry of selling to the trust for 25000 dollars.

Subscriptions Drive For Empson Canning Plant

Enthusiasm rose at a Commercial club luncheon in Greeley as a campaign for Empson canning factory subscriptions began. Despite small turnout, nearly twenty thousand dollars has been raised toward half the needed funding, with districts assigned to canvass for stock.

Beetles and Fungi Threaten Greeley Potatoes This Year

Prof E R Bennett of Agricultural College reports a poor potato outlook for Greeley district due to heavy flea beetle damage and widespread fusarium rot. Beetles attack leaves delaying growth and tubers rot in the ground, with seed quality and field history influencing severity. Recommendations include careful seed handling, dugout fumigation, copper sulfate treatment, and cautious use of Bordeaux mixtures and lime on seed.

Plant Louse Infestation Threatens Local Cabbage Crops

Prof S A Johnson of the State Agricultural College studied a cabbage destroying plant louse around Greeley last week. He reports the pest has appeared early and late cabbage crops, risking yield unless controls are found. Johnson tests nicotine sprays and other substances and will share results with growers. He notes a warm winter worsened the outbreak and urges action. A green bug in wheat is misidentified as the louse. infected fields should be turned over and replanted.

Cures Chicken Troubles Prescription for Mite Control

Prof S A Johnson proposes a chicken mite remedy for growers. Dissolve half a pound of laundry soap in a gallon of water, add a gallon of kerosene while boiling and vigorously stir to form an emulsion then dilute with soft water to make fifteen gallons. Apply three to four times during the season in roosts and nesting boxes.

Final Decree in Weld County Ditch Right of Way Case

A district court in Weld County issues a final decree in a condemnation suit brought by Dennis Sullivan of Denver for a ditch across Erie area lands. Landowners objected to nominal compensation. seepage and flood waters threaten a coal mine. Damages set: John Wolf 150, James Tidball 60, Den slow Land Co 65, Oscar Jackson 30, Federal Fuel and Development Co 62.50, Sullivan bears all costs 471.37. First Weld County case of coal lands damaged by ditch water.
