Frontier Life Along the Fifties Journey to the Pacific
Postmaster R. H. Johns recalls thirty five years on plains and mountains. Born 1834 in Wayne County Ohio he joined a brother in 1852 across the plains. He details crossing the Rockies at Bridger Pass mining in California, later settling in Minnesota and Idaho. He speaks of Moose Woods council relations with Cree and Assiniboines, brutal tribal justice, and his later campaigns in Idaho Oregon Montana and Colorado, including a perilous gold dust transport and frontier stock operations in Ellsworth and Weld counties. He now calls Greeley Colorado home.
