Estes Park Reserve Idea Gains Local and State Support

Colorado legislators and citizens back converting Bates Park into a national game preserve. Edward Taylor advocates federal action to acquire about 600,000 acres for a national park covering Estes Peak region with primeval forests and diverse wildlife. KR Barn Grounds Improve With Gravel Work

Four men haul gravel to fill holes and level the KR Barn grounds at the corner of Third Street and Fourth Avenue. The building is reroofed and weatherproofed, skylights begin Wednesday, and painters start the same day.

Hay Hook Attack at Box Elder Ranch

At the old Higgley ranch Basil Hillyer struck Peter Koff with a hay hook during a hay making dispute. The blow gashed Koff above the right eye requiring stitches. Hoff was charged and the case set for January 22 with $500 bond.

Wife of LaSalle banker fatally injured in runaway

Mrs. KR B. C. Penter, wife of LaSalle State Bank cashier, was trampled by a runaway horse on a main LaSalle street crossing. She remained unconscious with internal injuries. no bones broken. The horse, a hard mouthed animal, was ridden by Lewis Wilson's 10 year old son and had gotten beyond control.

Lateral Water Project Aims to Serve 3000 Acres Near Nunn

Construction on the Nunn lateral began Monday to deliver irrigation water to about 3,000 acres of fertile fields. The five mile canal includes a pumping plant near Section 34 east of Nunn, raising water about 45 feet from the main ditch. Final ditch survey expected soon as work draws intense local interest. In La Salle, a separate incident follows a boy on a speeding horse near town, causing a collision with Mrs. Carpenter who was knocked down and left unconscious. She recovered briefly with medical attention but remained in critical condition, with her mother due to arrive from Gothenburg tomorrow.

Suit Filed Over Estate Property in Eaton

Attorney James W. Gault files in county court for Thomas Yates administrator of John Yates estate of Eaton against Mary J. Hill seeking 1714 dollars for alleged conversion of property claimed to belong to John Yates. Petition also asks court costs. John Yates was a well known Eaton resident at his death and posthumous questions arose about the estate.

Sanborn Inspects Land for New Union Pacific Townsite

B D Sanborn traveled to the Boyd lake area to examine land for a proposed townsite near Boyd. Union Pacific officials reportedly secured most of the right of way from Brent south of Milliken to Fort Collins. The site, on the northeast edge of Boyd, lies on Sanborn’s land as railroad planners eye a new town about eighteen miles west of Green.

The Methodist Brotherhood held its annual election of officers Monday evening at the church. Nine members participated in the flourishing group. New officers are J. C. Alderman president D. Nenn Family Moves Nunn to Wiggins Colorado

S A Williams leaves a car with household goods livestock and machinery to ship to Wiggins Colorado near land he has taken as a homestead. He looks forward to a bright future as the Niles irrigation district reclaims land. The Williamses lived at the Hibberton ranch northeast of Pierce for two years and will be missed by many friends.

District Attorney George Carlson Takes Short Vacation

After a year of strenuous work District Attorney George Carlson left Port Collins without announcing his destination. He planned a brief rest and would return to resume the heavy criminal division term in the district court, one of the busiest this year in the state.

New Century Club Delights with Beecher and Howe Talks

At Mrs Curtis Tisdel home Wednesday the New Century club heard three papers on Henry Ward Beecher Julia Ward Howe and Harriett Beecher Stowe. Mrs Horace Hopkins led the Beecher discussion and Mrs A A Woodbury spoke on Howe with a full attendance and several guests entertained by the hostesses. Refreshments were served in the elaborate setting after the talks.
