California Nevada interests bid for Vigil and St. Vrain grant

A syndicate led by Morton and Upton from California and Nevada is negotiating with George W. Thompson for his stake in the Vigil and St. Vrain grant. The deal involves about 3 million acres between the Purgatorio river and the foothills west of Pueblo and south to Trinidad, with Butler as the largest owner. Partial listings show New Haven Cattle Company and Cleveland Cattle Company each to receive 600000 for their share, and the negotiations are described as the largest in the country, kept secret until now. The report also notes A. E. Gipson of Greeley and upcoming irrigation horticulture book.
