A staged wild west display near Windsor led to a pool hall riot in Severance as ten to twelve Black Hollow farmers shot at surroundings. Windows smashed, horses ridden into the hall, and Sheriff Florance pursued suspects. four or five men were captured and sent to Greeley.
The annual meeting led by Rev. John Doane reports all church committees in good standing. Finances are strong with bills paid and funds in the treasury despite higher trustee efforts. Membership exceeds 300, with 52 new members last year. Officers elected include Deacons J A Alexander and C H Ward. trustees W R McClelland and others. clerk Charles E Phelps. treasurer C T Neill. Sunday school head U G Gordon. Y P E president Henry Campbell.
Barber and Gordon announce immediate start on the Camfield hotel extension. Sub-contractors include George Strubel for brickwork, Potter Plumbing for heating and plumbing, and Minneapolis Iron Works for iron work from their Denver base. Brick on the road. surveyors worked yesterday at Neill and Ward corner to lay lines.
The legislature in January will be asked to authorize two new Colorado counties in the south. One county would be carved from Huerfano with La Veta as temporary seat, the other by dividing Conejos and Costilla with Alamosa as seat. If approved the state would have sixty one counties.

Special to the Daily Rome reports a rising death toll in the earthquake and tidal wave zones. Between 125000 and 150000 feared dead with Messina hit hardest as the harbor wreckage floods the port and fires rage. The king and queen comfort the ruined districts while nations offer aid. The American consul at Messina is missing and believed dead.
The Union Ladies Aid society distributed gar ments and provisions to the needy on Christmas morning led by President Mrs H J Houston. They received 200 pounds sugar from Sugar company and gifts from Empson Packing Nelson Vem orest Lofgren Bros Mrs C H Ramsay and Mrs Y H Gill among others.
The president, via the state department, expresses horror and sympathy for southern Italy and Sicily after the earthquake. He notes American Red Cross appeals for relief and that the American Red Cross will coordinate with its Italian counterpart.
Colorado Springs on December 30 reports police concluded C P Essick was murdered, not dying by his own action. Doctors said self harm was possible but impossible to reappear, as no knife was found and the only room entrance was from a son Claude’s room.
City council met with the Home Electric and Northern Colorado Power firms over a five year franchise for street lighting. Forty five arc lights at 84 dollars each, five cent per kilowatt hour for the library, gratis signals to city hall and fire department, and free alley lights proposed. A report by the light committee and investigations by Mr Doble aim to improve downtown and residential lighting.
Registered as W. H. McLane of El Paso Texas the man died by chloroform in his Union Hotel room. Propriety discovered the body with two empty chloroform bottles nearby. Coroner Macy to hold an inquest this afternoon.
A G A R committee led by J Max Clark ex Mayor Watson and Col Jones won permission to use the basement room of City Hall for meetings. The space remains unused and rent for the armory burdens the few remaining members. Watson noted future needs are distant as veterans fade.
A Tuesday evening gathering at Rev. J. J. Lace home hosted about thirty five church youths to meet Mona Lace home for holidays. The event featured four program items including piano and vocal solos and readings by Misses Gibson and Huge and Mrs. Coffin and Rev. Lace. Dainty refreshments followed.
Gifford Pinchot argues the annual Christmas tree harvest is insignificant next to broader timber use. He notes 4 million trees supplied nationally and that conservation plus reforestation will sustain demand for vast lumber and timber products.
Judge Bradfield rules Brown receives 1171.37 for note and labor on Clara Alward’s farm. Brown, a Black man, lived with Clara for eighteen years and also paid farm taxes of 51. Clara Alward, daughter of Steele who ran a boarding house at Evans, is now in Pueblo Insane asylum.
The Missouri Agricultural College announces a perfected anti-toxin serum against hog cholera. With a $45 000 yearly appropriation the state would save farmers an estimated 1 000 000 to 5 000 000 annually. The serum uses hyperimmunized hog serum with fibrin removed and small Carbolic acid treatment, stable for six to twelve months in cool storage.
The Arrows face the Pioneers in a Saturday night armory game billed as a top winter clash. Both teams are local high school stars with a strong Greeley rivalry, tipping off at 8 with dancing to follow until midnight. Arrows lineup Hamnett Rankin Woodbury Newton Hall McCreery. Mr. Vanderfoot is noted for pumpkins and squash yet wandered off last evening to raise a little grain and met Abel the six foot four copper who carried him to the police station. George Miller faced county court for contributing to juvenile delinquency over a turkey deal and received a $100 fine and costs, equal to three months at the Hotel Florance.
A pair of confidence men robbed C. P. Kemmerer of a $150 diamond stud at the depot this morning. While Kemmerer waited for a train a duo bumped and collided with him creating a tangle. Ten minutes later he found the jewel missing and gave a description to police who are investigating.
In Roanoke Virginia at the Lick Branch coal mine a blast last night trapped a rescue party by flames. By nine this morning twelve bodies were recovered and flames remained uncontrollable. The cause of the explosion is unknown.
